What is the cheapest way to get surround sound....
As the title says, what is the cheapest/best way to get 5.1 surround sound thats compatible with my xbox 360, humax 9200tb and samsung plasma tv?
Looking to spend no more than £170 realistically and not bothered about a dvd player (however if one is included, it needs to connect via component cable as I have no scart sockets free on the rear of my panel. Is £170 a realistic budget for what i will be needing it to do/connect to? |

£200 will get you a capable system if you could put the extra £30 to your budget, it doesn't include a DVD player but IMO you would be better off adding a dedicated player to the system at a later date.
Your £200 will get you the Yamaha AV61 package, this consists of the Yamaha RXV361 receiver and NSP110 speaker package. For the same money as the Yamaha RXV361 you could get the Denon AVR 1507, which I regard as better receiver than the Yamaha. Yamaha RXV361 Yamaha NSP110 Denon AVR1507 |

http://www.richersounds.co.uk/showpr...=SONY-STRDE400 Just be aware when you add further equipment, you only have 1 digital input free which is coaxial, if you purchase a DVD player at a later it will need to have a coaxial output, it's not essential, basically for ease of use, if it has optical you will either need an optical splitter or just swap cables over from xbox/Humax when in use. |

Yes it will be fine for what equipment you have now - It has 2 optical inputs for the Xbox and Humax.

Where is the chepest place to obtain optical cabling to link the xbox/humax to the rear of this receiver? I know most high street stores rip you off when it comes to cabling (£15 for a 1 metre hdmi cable!!) |
