My Dad's TV has gone on the blink and he wants to upgrade.

Can you give me an idea of what he should go for based on these variables:

TV Cabinet Width 28" (so will prob only support 25/6" - are these even available? - or more likely 21")
VCR connected via SCART
DVD player connected via SCART (no component or HDMI output on DVD player);
Possibly will go with Sky HD later on - but this is dependant on the price differential between an HD Ready 21/5/6" set and a non-HD Ready 21/5/6" set (note: he sits about 1/2 metre away from the TV (yes, I know!!!!!) lol)
Budget no object
Further question he has which I couldn't answer:

He loves Teletext / Ceefax etc. We are in Scotland so have about 2 years of analogue transmissions left. Is text available through the digital channels and if so, how does it work?

Many thanks for your help.

Digital text is completely rubbish! - essentially teletext finishes when analogue TV does!

You can get TV's with cabinets, if he wants a good TV get a Panasonic TX26-LXD70 make sure it fits though, or invest 50 in a new unit from Argos.

Nigel, thanks for the reply

I'm being thick here - is digital text different to the teletext he's getting at the moment through his analogue TV (hence the name)?

And if so, what are the main differences and why is it so poor in comparison.

Thank you

Digital text is what you'll get if you press the text button on your sky remote - completely different to teletext etc.

On a different point - you say budget is no object. If thats the case wouldnt you be better springing for a new cabinet and getting a tv that you/he wants rather than restricting yourself?

Its a bit like not buying a new house because your sofa wont fit!

It doesn't have the same pages on as analogue text, it's 'prettier' but appears lacking in content - it's also even slower than analogue text.
