I am looking to get two ceiling speakers but have no idea what I'm taking about when it comes to how good they are!

It's for a kitchen /breakfast room being built at the moment

Would something like this give an acceptable sound, the sound will be supplied buy a small(ish) midi system so am not expecting some B&O sound system but as they will be cutting a whole in the ceiling I would like to try and get it right first time!

Power max. 80W
Power rms 35W
Frequency response 100Hz - 20kHz
Tweeter 50mm (2")
SPL @ 1W/1m 86dB
Am looking to spend around 50 - 75 quid if that helps! All the ones I can find seem cheap and crap but they may just be bacause I don't know what I looking for!

Any help very much appreciated

Hi Chris, you're right about the one's you've found being cheap.

Those of us in the trade call these "contractor speakers". They're bottom of the range stuff; OK for getting sound in to non-essential areas, but not really up to the job of providing decent quality sound in to a main living area such as a kitchen. Of course there are different qualities of contractor speaker. Something from B&W, KEF or Monitor Audio is generally going to be better than a Far Eastern no brand product, but you won't get much change out of £100-£150 either!

This might sound harsh, but IMO £50-£75 is an unrealistic budget. I know everyone has different ideas of what "quality" means, but there's a break point where the compromises are too great and you should rethink the budget or the solution.

£100 is a minimum starting point. They'll do OK for background as long as you don't push the volume too high.

Regards

Hi.
I'm no expert but have just finished helping a friend install ceiling speakers. We used second hand speakers canibalised from a couple of cars. Put speakers in the lounge and Kitchen. Sprayed the fronts same as room. They look great (Hardly noticeable unless you know they are there) I must admit they sound very good aswell
