So the applications that are on the iphone have made it to the touch after all the rumours.

But charging £12.99 I think its a disgrace

Will anyone be purchasing this update ?

Personally i think its a out of order- one of the worst things apple has done. Makes them out to be real money grabbing bas***ds. Makes you wonder about the prices they charge across the board.

I accidentally purchased the update off itunes........ seriously i wasn't thinking and didn't see the 12,99- and hit the button in excitement- shocked to see 'thanks for purchacing' - My own fault i know. I'm so stupid.
The Updates are great but the 6 new added features equate to £2 each. poor value for money.

I'll be updating too.

If you don't want them , don't buy them - hold off in the hope that someone develops third party ones.

You bought your iPod touch with what you've got on it - these are optional upgrades.

it SHOULD be free though

Yes they should be free considering as the poster above said all Touches that have 1.1.3 on them will have them on for free

SHAME ON YOU APPLE!

give it a couple weeks someone will have a jailbreak to update to 1.1.3 and no doubt that someone will put the 1.1.3 apps up on the installer haha

Another nice touch by Apple is selling it to UK consumers at £12.99 as opposed to $19.99 for the USA.

Works out at $1.53 : £1

Companies never miss a chance of screwing the good old British public.

As for the software update, I don't think I will bother. Seems expensive for what on the face of it appear to be shortcut bottons for stuff you can access through Safari anyway.

Never thought of that, actually could you just copy the sms.app and maps.app from a 1.1.3 iPhone to an older one and run the new versions without updating I wonder?

I tried the update and it keeps asking me for card verification!

I bought a song to check it's working and it worked . . . .but the update won't?!

Anybody else have issues?

What happened to "It just works ...." ... (for a fee of course) ...

Yeh it's really frustrating when you've been allowed to download a song seconds before!

£12 for Google Maps and Email seems a bit of a bargain to me. You don't *need* to buy them if you don't want them.

$19.99 = £10.175 + VAT = £11.96. The extra quid isn't particularly bad to allow for exchange rate fluctuations.

can't be apparently because, unlike iphone and appletv, ipod touch doesn't account for its revenue on a subscription basis and accordingly some law (sarbane oxley act) means that they end up charging.

but the fact that new purchasers with 1.1.3 already on there will get them included as part of the ipod touch means that as per usual early adopters get stung again,it stinks but as we all know we havent a leg to stand on.

I'm sending my Ipod back to apple due to crackling sound problems (not desperate, but as it's still under guarantee, why not.) If they have to replace it, do you think I'll get one with the new apps on it?

I can always hope can't I!

They always do.

Especially the speed gadgets progress these days.

It's the price you pay for being first in. You pay a premium to get there first and then run the risk of a slightly updated version superceeding your version within a few months of release.

I'm sure the people that paid thousands for LCD and plasma when they first appeared are overjoyed that the rest of can get better sets now for a fraction of the price.

as sancheez says, it seems to be the way.

although in this case, it is (at least to me) unexpected. apple have clearly had a change of heart. there was an initial decision to cripple the touch by omitting apps that were already developed and ready. they've changed their strategy rather than developed the product.

the charge isn't much though.

Anyone know if Apple will be bringing out a larger capacity iPod Touch within the next three months?

couldn't see why not, it worked with the 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 apps

no-one knows.

there are two slots for memory in the ipod touch each taking 8GB flash memory. if they put two 16GB i suspect it would be rather pricey right now.

Technology gets cheaper over time, products get new features added to them and the price stays the same, this is nothing new. If you bought an iPod touch without these features then that was your decision, there was nothing to say that these features would ever be added anyway. The iPhone and Apple TV were announced as being accounted for over an extended period so that they could accommodate free updates - the iPod Touch wasn't. They didn't have to make these available to old versions, they could have just released a new version, added the apps and be done with it. If you don't feel they're worth the price then that's your decision but the assumption they should be free is your problem.
