It was a good programme and I did give it a go; however I found the pace to be frenzied! I love to cook but not busting my a$$ to get a meal on the table. I was really looking forward to this and was quite disappointed. If Gordon wanted to get people into cooking that was just way too manic, no matter if it wasn’t complicated or not. Sheesh, I was trying to ignore the overexcited pace but found myself hyperventilating along with him. There was no time to enjoy the experience at all with that pace. No love went into the cooking at all! I suppose you will say, well, that’s Gordon and I will believe you now. I thought he would at least chill a bit if he wanted the nation to get with the cooking at home thing. He has now probably left them thinking, the hell with that!
I spent a £13.50 on king scallops today from the fishmonger and another 14.50 on steaks from the local butcher (and working a full day as well). I said screw this after getting the chips in the oven and making the salsa. After spending that amount of money I’m not going to rush cooking expensive food and taking a chance I would ruin it and then wolf it down in 3 minutes and get back out there to throw the steak on, make a salad and have 5 minutes to gobble that too. With a cheaper dish or even two courses I would haver hung in there. As I said, with the money I spent I want to enjoy it. I’ve got the salsa and potatoes done (we are eating the chips now...lol). I put everything away and I’ll do the recipes but at my pace and be able to enjoy it as well without jumping up to race to have it done. I just sat down and enjoyed the rest of the show.
I’ll take Gary Rhodes love and tenderness with preparing food any day over that craziness. Good programme once I was able to sit down and watch it.
