I wouldn't waste an upgrade on the 8GB version. Screensize and physical memory difference, it's not different enough to renew a contract with.
I'm in the same boat. I think I'm gonna hang fire for a while and see what happens. |

Nokia N82 is probably the nearest thing. but it's a multimedia phone as opposed to a smartphone.

I'd take a serious look at the iPhone, I owned a nokia before mine and the iPhone seems like a next generation phone compared to the N95. Once you use it, and see how easy web surfing, mp3 storage etc is. Honestly the N95 is nice, but the iPhone is a big step up.
Under the iPhone's impressive UI is a pretty underwhelming phone. Don't be told otherwise. |

What makes you say that? Have you tried one in the real world?
Under all the fanciness of the touch scren, the functions are that of a phone you could buy years ago. Take the touch screen, and shove in everything the N95 and N82 can do, and I'd buy it. |

I have, and I'll admit I was impressed, but I soon got very bored with it.

On my iphone i use it as my main mp3 player, use the web on it every day and phone & text. I have a 7mpixel digital camera for photos so the camera doesn't bother me, I have a digital hi-def camcorder for video, and I don't think I've ever sent a MMS, so suits me perfectly. |

Suppose it depends what you use your phone for. I had an N95 and literally did nothing but text and make calls with it, couldn't be bothered/didn't learn the rest of it.

Next time, buy a cheap nasty £15 nokia for your calls and texts and leave the techie stuff to those who appreciate the advanced features. Clearly using an Iphone, you still prefer looks over substance. |

What did you ever buy the N95 in the first place for then? Some really strange people!

You're coming across as another typical DS forum member (are you anti-apple everything for the sake of it too? I got an N95 as it was free with a contract, I actually don't think the iPhone looks all that nice to be honest, doesn't look very "phone like" but using it is streets ahead of any other phone, never bothered with web browsing on the n95 as it was too fiddly, had to mess around downloading settings etc. Email the same, with the iphone itunes is second nature as I used itunes for the last 6 years with ipods. Sorry but I'd never wanted to browse the web for anything apart from essentials (train time tables etc.) never bothered with using it as a music player as too fiddly and cludgy. The iPhone is designed for just that, its simple and using it is a joy, nothing at all to do with "looks" don't be so ridiculous. Sorry but upon owning them both, the iPhone is a much much better phone than the N95, it makes the N95 feel last generation, the iPhone is in a different leauge. The N95 suffered daily crashes, I had to return my phone due to lock ups and had similar bugs with the next model, text app hanging, phone rebooting, not to mention the dreadful battery life. The iPhone is a joy, It just works, very well, nothing at all to do with looks over substance, what an embarrasingly narrow-minded, silly thing to say Your statement has no credibility, I have OWNED and used both on a daily basis, I can tell you which is the better device. |

I think the point that was being made is that if the N95 was free with a contract, then so would many other have phones been free too. Yet Chocolate Boy decided to choose a high-end, feature-packed, symbian-based phone when he KNEW he wouldn't use to its potential. If all he was interested in calls and texts only then why on earth choose an N95? There is actually is some flawed logic there.

I have no reason to sing the N95 to the hilltop, i personally own and prefer the LG Viewty. That said, having played with the Iphone, N95 and the Viewty, i made my choice. The Iphone was so badly lacking in functionality it was laughable for the cost. I am not anti-apple as you claim.................i own 2 ipods [8gb and 80gb models] and my daughter has the 4gb nano too. I just want my phone to do more than play music and to appreciate features not built into the basic Iphone. |
