Spoon - You're a Feddie fan?

You've heard the demos of the tracks MJ and Freddie once worked on together? Shame we'll never hear final completed version (if they ever got to that stage)

Ah... I've only just seen this thread.

I'm a huge fan, have been all my life. I even have MJ tattoos. (i have tattoos but I've never had the opportunity of seeing him live, funny that!)

To be honest with you, I actually don't like State of Shock with Mercury (and I love Freddy mercury/Queen). I'm kinda glad it was done with Mick Jagger instead.

Its like you said before there are so many and to be fair he has never done a BAD song( No pun intended0 Because he Is a perfectionist.
But probably because I saw Him Do Billie Jean Live I would Have to say I t was the most breathtaking performance I have ever seen.
I actually love" Will you be there"as well. ( HAVING THAT AT MY FUNERAL ) Sorry how morbid
But hey they are all brilliant songs. The guy is a phenomenal.
Really...? Interesting. I'm considering I Just Can't Stop Loving You when I walk down the aisle and Lady in My Life as my first dance

do you mean Freddie Mercury? if so, yes, I saw Queen at MK Bowl and it was one of my best-ever gigs

I can't recall ever having heard anything that MJ and FM did together - in a way it would be a bit like Brian May and George Benson playing together...(both excellent, but different)

(I also like Freddie King, the blues player "Going down" is a classic)

thank you for that - Freddie stands out a mile - there's nobody to take over his crown alas.

didn't think that their voices worked that well together TBH - so different in tone and approach - perhaps if they had finished it, it might have come together, but alas it is one for the rareties pile.

For my part, I explained why I came on here asking questions - but with an Appreciation thread, you simply have to accept that the majority of people on that thread will have something positive to say about the artist concerned and not post abusively.

Personally, I think MJ is pretty troubled and that came through during his trial. although there was some cogent evidence against him, he was acquitted, but considering the main witnesses against him were financially motivated, it was not a 'perverse' decision by the jury. he was presumed innocent and as some evidence was badly tainted, the jury were entitled to say they considered there was 'reasonable doubt'.
OJ was in the same situation, but was then successfully sued in civil proceedings which are on a different level of probability. same could have happened in civil proceedings between MJ and various people, but even if it did, he was still acquitted and that is that so far as criminality is concerned.

this is not the thread to debate whether "Wacko Jacko" would be a good babysitter, it is one about what merit there is to his performances and how he fits into music's hall of fame.
Hello Spoon - Just to add my two pennorth to the debate - I remember when MJ first performed Billie Jean (I was going to put BJ but thought better of it) at the Tamla Motown award evening and seasoned Tamla Motown artists such as Smokey Robinson leapt to their feet and gave him a standing ovation for his performance. people were literally in shock and mesmerised by that performance. I can't remember who came on afterward but poor them is all I can say.

That was definitely his time - for the next few years he was at the top of his game. The dancing routine in Thriller had never been seen on a pop video before and has been copied over and over again and incorporated into the kind of spectacular stage shpws we 've come to expect from the likes of Madonna, Britney Spears, J Lo, Kylie Minogue -

So apart from those innovations and also being a style icon probably one of the best live performers I've ever seen. Saw the Bad tour and one other. Whatever he does he gives 100%. Also a great singer and songwriter.

His personal life has ruined him and also the plastic surgery and it's difficult to separate his image today from his past success. But if you can and you look back to when he was on top, there was no one in his field who came close to what he was doing at the time, though he influenced many.

I dunno, i think the final studio version may have sounded better and there voices gelled a bit.

I love how much of an influence Freddy had on Michael though, just listen to some of the notes and phrasing...Michael imitating Freddy.

I also read some stuff about how much Freddy liked MJ...such a shame the songs didnt make it onto the album

Rumour has it Michael scrapped them after he caught Freddy snorting a line at neverland...how true that is i dunno lol

Thanks for that Bez I will have a go

Can't really believe Thriller is 25 years old

I remember the excitement waiting to see it for the first time, and just how groundbreaking it was . I don't think anything will ever compare to the anticipation and magic he created. It is like the man himself A one Off.

Akon involved in Jackson Super Bowl ad
By NEKESA MUMBI MOODY AP Entertainment Writer
Article Launched: 02/02/2008 05:45:20 PM PST

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.—It's supposed to be top secret—but Akon is giving out a tidbit of information about the rumored ad that Michael Jackson is doing for the Super Bowl.

"We just did a commercial—it's a Pepsi commercial. He actually involved me in it so I feel like I'm a part of that process," Akon told The Associated Press on Friday at Maxim's pre-Super Bowl bash.

Jackson is releasing a 25th anniversary edition of his best-selling album "Thriller" on Feb. 12, featuring acts like Akon, Kanye West and Fergie on remix editions of that historic disc's songs.

"It's really moreso Mike picking a lot of the acts that he liked and admired today, and kind of getting them the big songs that they like and reinventing it like it was their own," he explained. "Everyone has their own taste of how that would have been."

It's been reported that an ad for the CD will be featured during the Super Bowl. But while Akon did confirm a commercial does exist, he was closed-mouthed when asked how to describe it.

"Oh, he might kill me," Akon laughed about Jackson. "But it's gonna be funny. You're going to love it. He's not even in it. But it's crazy. I want to tell you so bad!"

I'm amazed that MJ would have been so precious - Queen were the party kings of the mid 70s - pretty outrageous from all accounts.

I agree with you there spoony, I think anyone snorting a line would have been very trivial to what M.J. Has seen and witnessed over the years especially when he was little with his own family.
