I phoned vodafone who told me to stand outside for 20 mins. after 3 calls back to vodafone who could not hear me properley because i think the phone is faulty(very loud background noise when talking) and they say the phone is locked to nokia and they
have had a batch with this problem. they have given me Nokias number and if I phone with the ime number of the replacement handset they will sort it. how will they sort it

Hi sirog,

The maps for the Nokia 6110 should be on the memory card which came with the handset. Do you have this installed into the phone?

I believe what the customer service agent was trying to explain with the '20 minutes outside' comment was that upon initial use it can take a while for the GPS receiver to locate itself on the satellite network, even up to 20 minutes.

If it was that the memory card wasn't the problem then please reply to this thread and we'll look into it further.

As above, the first thing most people is swap out the memory card for their own, bigger, one and thats why the GPS shows no maps.

However if you have poor call quality then get a replacement right now.

The memory card is in the phone. The agent said they had recieved an email saying a batch of these phones that Nokia had sent out had not unlocked the maps. they are on the memory card showing a red locked padlock so you can not view them. The email was internal at Vodafone so what suprised me was that the tech service guy advised standing outside, i had told them the lock on the satellite was not the problem . the agent gave me Nokias phone number and said I would have to sort it out myself when the replacement arrived.

Sorry but I would not accept that response from the "agent", they sold you the phone. If you can not access the maps they should either replace the phone (which it sounds like you need anyway to correct the call issues), or they should be the ones doing the unlocking.

Hi again sirog,

Since I posted yesterday I've discovered there is currently a fault registered on our systems with some of the 6110 handsets released.

As you wrote, the maps are currently unlocked. The way to get this unlocked is either by visiting a Nokia store or sending your handset away to them for it to be manually unlocked.

I'm really sorry for this inconvenience, and I hope that you get your maps up and running soon.

The maps were not working as expected but Nokia when I finnaly got through said i would have to take the phone to Grimsby to get it unlocked, surley my contract is with Vodaphone why should I do a 80 mile round trip

As already said, you bought a navigator phone and it doesn't work (whether its locked or not is not an issue), vodafone should be responsible for providing you with a phone that works. End of. By prolonging this you are not doing yourself any favours, simplest thing is to reject the phone as faulty, it certainly should not be your responsibility to get it working.

Vodafone are really being unhelpful. They say that they will only replace the phone with a different one. I really like this phone and do not want to swap, I just want it to work. Phoned a Nokia repair centre today to see if they would sort the maps and they said they knew nothing and get back to vodafone. talk about banging your head against a brick wall

Hi sirog,

Unfortunately the problem with the maps is a Nokia error that we at Vodafone don't have access to the equipment to resolve, either in store or at our logistics centre. Sorry if our telephone customer service teams were unhelpful with the issue, but it's something that we don't really deal with.

You're right in saying that you got the phone from Vodafone and we're responsible for the main functions of the handset, but the GPS feature isn't something that we can provide technical support for (it's better for the experts at Nokia who designed the service to help you with this, just like with phone-pc connectivity for example.)

The only way to get the service unlocked is by visiting this section on Nokia's website, completing the repair form in section 2 and sending your phone to them with it. Unfortunately Nokia's stores aren't even offering to unlock the service any more.

I hope that you manage to get this sorted,

@edwardpeter, you said yourself that you (Vodafone) have sold a faulty handset. It is not up to the customer to get it repaired. It is Vodafone's responsibility to sort the problem out.

Maybe I could say this again "GET THE PHONE REPLACED", I really hope that vodafone is not continuing to sell faulty handsets

If Vodafone replace it the chances are that the new one will be the same(i have had 2 already). I really like the phone but i refuse to send a new phone for repair. if the maps are on the Memory card then why cant Nokia or Vodafone send me a memory card that has unlocked maps on it.

Exactly, if Vodafone act within the law they should arrange a working replacement. They cannot play ping pong with you like this and cannot shirk their responsibilities as a supplier of faulty goods.
You should seek advice from Consumer Direct or Citizen's Advice Bureau. A letter to Vodafone's executive office, with a printout of this forum may help.

The actual maps are on the memory card, but the activation certificate is stored on the phone.

I give up, after trying again tonight and getting nowhere again I am going to have to say goodbye to my Navigator 6110. I really Like, it but I am not sending a brand new phone to Nokia to have the maps unlocked. Vodafone are relying on their customers to sort out there problems. I am shocked by the lack of customer services. All I wanted for was the phone to do what Vodafone said it would do.
Any Ideas of what phone to try now

Is the 6110 available from another service provider?

I'm getting a large memory card. How would I go about moving the maps on the old one to it?

Download Nokia Maps Loader

Shove your memory cart into your computer or card reader for your laptop or PC, run that program, select which maps you want on the memory card, it will download and write them to the card. then shove in ya phone and voila! you should have all the maps requested fully loaded.

The SD card I have received has two items in it. One a large microSD adaptor card, and the MicroSD 2GB card.
I only have an input on my pc for the larger card. How do I connect the microSD to my pc?
Also, is it not just possible to insert the new microSD into the phone and simply download the maps again from Nokia Suite? And if this works, is there anything else that is stored on the memory card that I might lose (apart from music which I know about)

It's ok, I've just sussed it out. Put the small one inside the adaptor. Doh!
