Help with old DVR-5100 with format on dvds

Yes finally my Dvd in this machine is now dead lasted 4.3 years. Too costly to repair.

however tried playing some of my dvds that i made with this machine but not finalised in a cheap l dvd player only so no surprise will not work.

My question is will a need to buy another Pioneer to be able to watch these dvds or will the other brands sony or panny be able to recognise these dvds

I presume you are talking about dvd-r in video mode, and not dvd-rw in VR mode. I think these may have to be finalised on a Pioneer recorder before they will work. I always finalise everything so that they work on cheap machines. I would say it would be doubtful that a Pioneer recorded unfinalised disc would work on a Panny or a Sony.

If they are VR mode -RW discs, then they will work in a Pioneer DVD player that is RW compatible.
