You can't really go wrong with Delia's Complete Cookery Course, or Mary Berry has one with the same title. If you're not very experienced Delia probably explains things better.

No probs! Whenever i'm stuck I always turn to that book and Delia has never let me down yet. It's the most used book in my kitchen.

I would second that - Delia covers most things and generally the recipes work out well. Also the Naked chef books are good. The other series that I like and again work out are the Australian Woman's weekly cookbooks. Another chef that I have recently discovered is Rachel Allen - her recipes are easy and again quite delicious.

Nigella Lawson is my favourite. Her "Nigella Express" is the easiest and the quickest.

It's also worth checking out Delia Smith's website for free. She has recipes for most things and really spells out the instructions, if you're a bit inexperienced. You can just search for the recipe you're looking for, or the ingredients you have to hand, and up they all pop!
By the way, if you're thinking of getting Nigella Express - which is very good - The Book People are selling it for only £9.99 at the moment - £15 off!

BBC website rocks for healthy eating and recipes. Just type in an ingredient.

How old are your children? Annabel Karmels books are great for weaning, toddlers and good meals that all the family can enjoy.
