HI there!

I use voipcheap with a headset at my PC. I would like a cordless phone to use around the house, preferably when PC not always on. I dont need to use the land line at all - er...unless I need police!

So, what phone would people recommend to use, or router and phone? I see phones customised and certified by Skype, but fear they will not work with voipcheap.

The other concern is my contacts list. Would it be possible to access this from voipcheap server. Maybe even ability to use synchronized contacts I could update wherever I call from? (Like Foxmarks for Firefox Bookmarks) If not, do these voip phones have ability to import vcf lists? Just that I have loads of contacts.

I have seen users here talk about Linksys PAP2, which allows you to use normal landline phone. MAybe this is route to go, since maybe available landline phones have more import features for contacts?

Yes, use an ordinary DECT phone. From what I've seen this is the way to go at the moment.

Thanks for that. I've just discovered Plaxo to consolidate all my contacts in Thunderbird, MSN , Yahoo etc, but from what I can tell, you need PC access and it doesnt work with voipcheap.

I use a PAP2 with sister service VoIPStunt (have a local number with them) and Sipgate, it has two lines, each with a REN of 5, so you can add your usual corded or DECT phones.

The PAP2 needs to be connected to a router, it has many settings so you can make it mimic a UK landline set-up (PM me if you need all the UK settings), PAP2s can be picked up for around £20. Though make sure you don't get ones that were made for Vonage - who lock them (though some can be unlocked, if you aren't careful they could be permanently locked).

Worth a look at http://backsla.sh/betamax to find which Betamax VoIP suits. Some have 90 free days, some 120.

It's not bad, but I'd prefer an ATA and the choice of any DECT phone system.

Presumably with this, any handset can have a call active, and switch between POTS and VOIP?

Talking of ATA, I have found in my drawers a CISCO ATA 186, which was issued with BT when they first launched their voip package.

Im not a great techi, and wonder if it is possible to configure for voipcheap. Ive had a look at CISCO docs, but dont understand the language to hone in on the what I need to know amidst the many config settings etc.

Is this a dead end or hot water does anybody know, or is there a straight forward answer for configuring this ATA 186 with voipcheap. BTW Im not restricting myself to voipcheap - maybe there's another more flexible voip serice?
