Hi, has anyone been having trouble making calls on Vodafone over the last week or so ?

I have a number of colleagues up and down the country who have been having trouble, getting "error making connection" messages,. etc.

Three guys couldn't get a signal while in a meeting at a hotel in Swindon and one guy couldn;t get a signal on large parts of the M42.

All the guys have the same phone (Nokia 6233), which is supposed to be the new standard business phone to replace the 6230i.

TIA

No problems around Brum, well apart from the usual black-spots around the NIA area and a few other black spots in some suburbs.

Thanks for the reply, does anyone have problems around the M4/M5/M42 and Swindon/Bristol/Exeter areas ?

Also, does anyone have problems with the Nokia 6233 ?

TIA

6233 works just fine.

(unless you want to use it for IMAP4 then that's another story)

Hope i'm not stating the obvious here, but have you phoned 191 to report your issues?

Hi Sam,

I've double checked on Vodafone's network issues noticeboard and there's nothing specific that could have been affecting your service.

In less populated areas you can sometimes find that the network can get busy at times, but if you find that the problems persist then please don't hesitate to call 191 as legends wear 7 suggested.

The call is free from your mobile and we'll make sure your equipment is functioning correctly and log any relevant network faults.

Have a nice afternoon,

Thanks for the replies !

I'm experimenting with switching off the "Dual" network mode and sticking with GSM only, to see how that works.

I've had suggestions that there could be issues with how networks are selected when calls are connected, so will try this and see how it goes. The down side is that we will have to switch back to Dual or UTMS mode to use the phone as a 3G modem.

I'll let you know how it goes !

Good news on coverage !
By switching to GSM, signal is much stronger, calls much clearer and coverage much wider.
Seems like the number of 3G masts is the problem !

I've had problems in the last few weeks on Voda's 3G network...dropping out signal - Reported it to Voda CS! Like Sam switched to GSM which gave me a better and clearer signal, although Vodafone really need to investigate this issue.

Perhaps I should revise my conclusion !

The problem seems to be how the system deals with movement from mast to mast, and 2G to 3G and vice versa.

The technology has been proven to work in other countries - maybe they have a better network than we do !

If they can come up with a plan to share all the 3G masts, we might end up with a network that is fit for purpose.
