Only if you have an iTunes account registered to the US.

www.cheapertunes.blogspot.com

you buy an account for £2.50 and then you have to buy gift cards, which are sold for more than they are worth eg $50 card for £35.

And i believe its illegal. But it works

Would this method work?

1. purchase an American iTunes gift certificate voucher code from eBay.
2. open iTunes and click on the iTunes store.
3. click on "redeem"
4. enter your gift voucher code
5. create a new account (since you used a gift certificate code it might not ask for billing details?)

No it won't, as your ISP identifies you as being in the UK, and you computer is set to the UK regional settings. The only way round it, to my knowledge, would be to use a US proxy and then setup a new iTunes account. However, as well as being a complete pain to setup, it's generally a bad idea, and may not even work in the first place.

Rubbish. It works fine. No proxy needed. Although obviously a US store code wont work in the UK store.

Apple doesn't do any form of IP checking or even looking at your computer's locale.

As it's near impossible to get a US credit card without living there they see that as a good enough restriction.

It works fine but you do need an Ameircan address. iTunes checks the Zip code matches the city and the state. Get a Zip code, city and state off the internet and make the rest up.

I have downloaded The Simpsons movie to rent a few days ago and it works fine, allowing me to trasnfer it back and fourth between my iPhone. When the Apple TV update is launched I will use my US account on it.

Although illegal, I doubt Apple are too fussed about it but the music and movie companies would be lol

Correction. It is NOT illegal to download from the USA iTunes store, but you are breaking the agreement you "signed" when you started using the iTunes Store. Apple could easily stop the use of iTunes Gift Cards outside the US if they wanted to, using GEO location of Ip addresses, but It's the record/film/TV companies that insists on this restriction, so they can continue selling their stuff more expensively outside the US - as they always have done. If you're having problems getting it to work, there is a great step by step instruction at http://iTunes-Giftcards.com/FAQ

Coincidently, I had to do something similar the other day.

A friend of mine, who is in New Zealand gave me a $20 iTunes gift that he didn't need or want. I tried to redeem it as a UK Customer, but didn't work.

All you have to do, is sign up for a new account under the country you wish to use, as in my case, New Zealand. Login to that account, and redeem the code.

You then can download from it with no problems.

Exactly, It's really simple. Just make sure to use an email address that's not registered with another itunes store, and that you use a correct US address - any address!
