It just goes to show what a waste of space the Brit awards are when someone as talented as Amy, with her fantastic debut release, doesn't get any recognition at all from the Brits.

Yet Kate Nash gets a nomination! Says it all really. Absolutely ridiculous and no reflection at all of the true talent that exists in the industry in the UK.

I think amy should be glad she didn't set a **it nomination. The brits have really turn into a pitiful excuse to give awards to all the talentless drivel that comes from that brit academy. bollocks.

Wouldn't be a bad competition:

Amy MacDonald
KT Tunstall
Fratellis
Franz Ferdinand
Travis

could go on

On the point of Amy MacDonald, I would say that her album is just about the best album I've ever heard, and how she doesn't get a nomination staggers me. The Brits should promote the best of our artists, forgetting what was said as long as it didn't go too far - remember that KT Tunstall (who I am a big fan of and delighted to see nominated) described the Germans as "f***ing Nazis". You can understand why Amy Winehouse hasn't been nominated given what's gone on in her personal life - and I really hope she recovers from it and gets the help she needs. But Amy MacDonald hasn't generated enough bad publicity to warrant non-nomination - and possibly would have been nominated but for Kate Nash .

*spits out imaginary tea*

I'm sorry but it's an OK album and that's about it! She probably still should have got the Brit nom though. But, of course, it's who you're in with.

Amy Whinehouse wasn't nominated because she was nominated last year, back to black came out late 2006.

Shamefull that she hasnt had a nomination. Such a well crafted album that has done so well without the hype that seems to be needed these days.

You just need to look at nominations for best male and best female to see that the Brits are either a marketing ploy for flavours of the month (Leona Lewis), being pushed by record companies and powerful individuals within them - or - completely random (Mark Ronson!)

They have very little to do with recognising long term and genuine artists/musicians, IMO.

It's a farce - always has been.

Hmm conspiracy theories about how peopel get nominations do amuse me.

A few years back i was on the voting panel for the brit awards and i am so far removed from the "industry" its quite ridiculious. I certainly wasnt voting for anyone i knew or anything like that - i voted for people i liked that year and thought had done well.

In fact i think i put Amy Studt as my number one female that year and well she didnt get a nomination at all in the end.

There are over 2000 people on the voting panle for the brit awards so if someone didnt get a nomination its because a lot of people didnt vote for them. The shortlists in most categories are not selected by a few insiders but a wide spectrum of people.

I heard her singing live on TV tonight singing This Is The Life and she was terrible!

I like her songs and have downloaded Mr RocknRoll and This Is The Life, but when she sings it live I just have a few questions;

What exactly is a loiffe?
And why does she sound like Nelson Mandela in parts?

I liked that performance But I also really like her 'live' singing voice.

Each to their own guess
