Restaurants in Paris - Recommendations?
sarahcs

OH and I are going to Paris in February. Neither of us have been before. We're staying near the Champs-Elysses (according to their website, but of course near could mean anything!)
Does anyone have any recommendations for restaurants in the evening? Merci!

I'd say don't go to restaurants ON the Champs Elysees unless you fancy paying double the going rate. It's where all the tourists head to, and they charge accordingly.

You'd be better off looking in side streets for smaller, local restaurants. Ask at your hotel too, and follow locals. The best restaurant we found in Paris (actually, same thing in Barcelona and Amsterdam too) was one recommended to us by someone local.

Good idea, thanks.

And thanks to mods for moving this! I forgot there was a food forum now!

If it's a special romantic getaway, you should have dinner at La Perouse (http://www.restaurantlaperouse.com) - it has numerous private dining rooms - some for just two people. My boss took me there once so it wasn't a romantic occasion but it was a fabulous experience.

Another restaurant well worth trying is La Coupole in Montparnasse (http://www.flobrasseries.com/coupoleparis). Lots of history in there. It's a large, buzzy place, well worth a visit. Their Chocolate Fondant is to die for!

Finally, for the best steak-frites you'll ever eat, try L'entrecote (http://www.relaisentrecote.fr) - there's no menu, you'll be given a green salad as a starter, and steak-frites as a main course! The steak comes with a fabulous sauce. I can't recommend it highly enough. There are a few branches, the one on rue Marbeuf is just off the Champs Elysees and I spent many a happy lunchtime there!

Hope this helps. Have a fab trip

I liked this place:-

Not the best food in the world, but pretty cheap for Paris. The waiters also write your order on the tablecloth and you share tables with other people which is quite cool.

This is a nice place if you fancy a quick ride on the metro to Bastille. Make sure you have their chocolate mousse with Cointreau which comes poured over the mousse rather than in it.

Restaurant La Zygotheque, on the Rue de Tolbiac, it's next door to the Holiday Inn...Gorgeous little place, very friendly owner, he was wonderful and very patient with me and hubby when we went in (on our honeymoon) as our french isn't the best! The food was out of this world...especially the home made desserts(drool!)

If I had the money I'd happily fly there for dinner every week... if you can find it OK I'd definitely recommend it!

Have a wonderful time in Paris.....it's a fabulous city!

If you're a Sex & the City fan, make sure you go here - probably just for a drink as it's quite pricey. It's where the last 2 episodes were filmed

I'd recommend this one as well - so simple but really amazing quality ingredients.

Also L'Assiette near the Chateau Rouge metro is truly amazing, it's extremely good value for money, very charming as a place and the staff are the friendliest I've ever encountered. You can see a sample menu here: http://www.gralon.net/restaurants-fr...paris-2134.htm

I'd follow the advise above a get away from the main avenues. We found a wonderful one just one minute away from Grand Nord railway station. I'm really sorry I can't recall the name but the food was freshly made, as it should be, and tasted fantastic.

While we were there an American guy kicked off because he had ordered his food [b]five[b] minutes ago and couldn't wait!! He missed a real treat because good food takes time and I was 100% happy with the food and the service. Sorry I can't remember the name, but the point remains, get off the beaten track, away from Tourist frequents etc, and find your self a slice of real Parisian food. You won't be disappointed. We ate in these small, family run places, the whole time and never had a disappointing meal.

Had a really nice meal last year at :-

Le Pure Cafe
14 Rue Jean Mace
75011 Paris

Great Parisien cafe that was used as a film location in the film "Before Sunset" with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy.

Food great, beer cheap for Paris, wine good, coffee & cognac nice also.

For the most amazing Belle Epoque decor, take the metro straight through to the Gare de Lyon and visit the main station restaurant, "Le Train Bleu". Never yet managed to get the chance to dine there, but have dropped in for a drink a few times. It is fabulous.

My Favourite restaurant in Paris is Le Petit Picard,
42, Rue Ste Croix la Bretonnerie, 75004.
Nearest Metro Rambuteau. Have a look-see here.....

Great Food and reasonably priced. I can personally recommend the Bavette!!

That's great, I'm so pleased (not that they picked the restaurant I recommended, but that they loved it).

There's a fantastic seafood restaurant along Champs Elysees BUT can't remember the name although I always know where it is.

As usual it has sittings outside but the inside is very grand in oak panelling, mirrors & downstairs is sumptiously decorated with lots of flowers.

We always have to have fruits de mer to start which is served very elegantly in tiers.
