Dont know if anyone saw the show about the 70s, the other night, but on the review of Glam Rock there was a clip of Leader of gang from TOTP, personally i think this song is aclassic but i thought the BBC, said that GG,S songs would not feature on the networks Radio & tv shows
Did anybody else see this & did BBC get any complaints

Just because someone's a paedophile doesn't mean that they made any less of a contribution towards glam rock. Any complaints would, rightly, just be thrown out immediately.

Pedo or not, he HAS to be a part of any look back at 70's pop and glam rock.

And I say that as someone who cant listen to him now.

(tho they did feature the Glitter band ) i thought it was terrible & wrote to the BBC & complained that to have a show about Glam rock without GG, was daft to put it midly
BBC replied by saying that "we could only feature so many artisits , yet featured Roxy Music who were Not a Glam band in a millon years, so was surprised to see him the other night tbh, at the same time was pleased as (no matter what he has done this century) the previous 30 years he made some Classic records & was brillant Live. too

It'd be silly not too. They shouldn't not play his music because of what he does in his personal life.

If Michael Jackson had been found guilty I wouldn't suddenly dislike all my MJ Cd's. It's the same music.

GG was huge when he was out and very much part of the Glam Rock scene. A true showman and he had some good songs - and a lot of fans.

He seems to have been air-brushed out of history, so it was a surprise to see him on BBC4. Revisionism.

I have a 70s Glam compilation CD with a couple of GG tracks on... the sick idiot has lost out on any chance of being on other compilations or getting airplay. It will have cost him a fortune.

He did a very bad thing, got caught and punished, but should his contribution to the music scene at the time be completely erased?

I have my doubts about Jacko and his conduct. Imagine if MJ was found guilty, would he be erased from music history? Imagine the cost to the music industry in terms of royalties if MJ was toxic. Makes you think.

This morning they are reporting that Gary Glitter has had a heart attack.

I have a video of him doing live shows , won it on a charity auction on our local radio , tried to sell it on Ebay but got lots of abusive Emails

Gary Glitter songs aren't played by any BBC or ILR stations. When Radio 2 do Pick Of The Pops on Sunday afternoons they'll always avoid a chart where Glitter was No.1 and just miss out any songs where he was below No.1 in the chart. Capital Gold do the same on their old chart show on Sunday mornings. It's a sort of "unofficial" ban.

This is a tough situation.

I dont like to judge people for the most part, as i dont think its my place to. However, I just cant listen to Gary Glitter's music without thinking of the disturbing things he has done- those sick images and abuse of the young pre teens. I think ihis actions were completly wrong. And, i just cant listen to his music, as i have have lost all respect for this man now.

Do i think his music should be banned from radio and tv though?... probably not!- i think its a person's perogative whether they still listen to his music or relive his glory days, and shouldnt be airbrushed out by the authority's in music and broadcasting.

I saw GG before he was known to be a kiddie fiddler. he was v popular, even amongst cynical students.

Can you call that c**p art? His 'music' was the 1970s equivalent of the X Factor pre-packaged pap fed to gullible teens! Glitter wasn't interested in making art, the music was just a way for him to acquire the money and position which he could use to pursue his 'interests'.
I wasn't around at the time of glam rock, but I can hear the merit in much of what Slade, Sweet and Marc Bolan did. But Glitter, along with such rubbish as Barry Blue, The Bay City Rollers and The Wombles, sounds as much feeble bandwaggon jumping as any Stock Aitken Waterman cover version from the 80s. So I don't want to hear him on any level.

I have heard 'The Six Teens' and 'Fox On The Run' by Sweet, I have heard 'Cum On Feel The Noize' by Slade, and, regardless of what era they come from, they are great songs, as are others by these artists.
I have heard 'I Love You Love Me Love' by Gary Glitter, and several other songs by him, and think they are boring and a pale imitation of T-Rex. And this was before I knew anything else about him.
And in interviews on 'pre-ban' nostalgia progs, I have heard Glitter's producer admit that it was 'production line' music, much like McFly or Busted in the 2000s.
I think that's enough on which to base an opinion. People who like Glitter's music don't have to agree with it.

I think the BBC were definitely right to give Glitter a mention. As has been said, he was one of the defining acts of the Glam era and it's hardly as though the Beeb would have glorified him in any way.

I remember working at a nightspot around the time of the Michael Jackson trial in 2005 before the jury's verdict had been delivered. Coincidentally the nightspot had a MJ tribute act due to appear the same week that the jury retired and I remember the managers going mad and worrying that nobody would show up if Michael had been found guilty etc.

I suspect that even if Michael Jackson had been found guilty his music would still have been played.

On the subject of Gary Glitter though, I seem to remember hearing 'Rock & Roll (part 2)' on the soundtrack to some awful American comedy thing recently.

honest you haven't a clue what your talking about. Bowie and Bolan were certainly Glam but GG , Mike Leander and the Glitter Band invented GlamRock with Rock and Roll Part2

I think the posters point is that Bolan, Slade and of course Bowie and Roxy Music had/have musical credibility whilst Glitter,Mud and others were and are seen as less credible and more disposable musically...

And sorry, Glitter didnt invent Glam Rock, which arose around 1971. If anything Marc Bolan did...
