I've a burning desire for more inches!!

I currently own a lovely wonderful Sony KV-32FD1E, a lovely piece of Sony's Wega technology. I've had it 2½ years and those 32 inches are no longer enough!!

I'm certainly not breaking my neck to upgrade - there is no real "need" to - but I have my eye on a Sony rear-projection model or two (Sony-mad, I lke the stuff). The fab-looking but considered-overpriced Grand Wega & stand look fantastic but I do like the look of the KP-41PZ1 model too, 42" of widescreen soccer and movies would be nice.

I also see two new models for my (Switzerland) market, the KP-44/51PS2 models, both using Wega technology. Nice.....

Now, my question is this: how good are these TVs, if anyone has them, and also, do others with larger screens have different makes and what are your thoughts?

I sit about 10ft away from my TV at the moment so I think at some point size might be too much!

Thanks - Lee

Firstly, these projection TVs are great BUT not close up. I've installed a few and find that the minimun distance you need be from it is at least 10 feet.. it's like viewing an LCD monitor, you MUST be in the optimum viewing position.

Projectoion TVs are great but not as good as CRT TVs...
do your research carefully before buying one of these!

Thanks Orbitalzone, I am not rushing to replace mine as I have a lovely TV anyway but a few more inches would not go amiss.

Typically I do sit about 10 feet away from the TV but only just. I also like the newer Sony kit with DRC technology and the LCD/Wega should reduce granularity, hopefully. ANd because of the distance between me & TV, I think 42-46" is probably the limit.

I am going to audition sets, preferably with my DVD player and sat-box so I can make a good and satisflying choice. And the existing Wega TV will look great in my bedroom!!!

I'd be interested to know what larger, non-CRT TVs people might have and what their good/bad points are.

Thanks - Lee

I forgot to mention that I was quite impressed with the Panasonic projection TV I saw. It was a LOT cheaper than the equivilent Sony and gave, I thought, better brighter pictures.

I'm not sure about the current Sony projection TV's but the model from a couple of years ago used a special lamp and when it burns out it costs about £150 to replace... so bear this in mind..... the life of this bulb was supposedly 5000 hours as stated in the Sony service manual.... then in a later service manual they didn't mention the life span which made me think it might be shorter than 5000 hours.....
