There are some Scotch Eggs in the fridge but I gave up eating piggies.

http://www.handmadescotcheggs.co.uk/

Found this place but look at the price of them, 12 quid postage. Anyone know where to get hold of them, any supermarkets have them tucked away on their shelves.

I can almost taste them, and pineapple ski yoghurt's.

You can get them in Holland and Barratt. I used to eat them before I became a vegan.

They are indeed very nice. I've had them a couple of times before now.

Holland & Barrett, are they the health food people?

We have one of them in the local precinct I think, I'm amazed at the human brain's ability to recreate the taste of something you eat years ago.

Yes, but they seem to sell out of their chiller food quite quickly. You need to go on or just after their delivery day. If they haven't got any in ask them when their delivery day is and are they ordering any.

Also, they do a good 'porkless pie' as well, which is gorgeous. Just like a pork pie, but veggie friendly. Mmmmmmmmmmm!

I used to eat those too! The giant ones aren't quite as good though.

I've only ever had the giant ones. I'll have to try the smaller ones next time I'm there.

I know- gargantuan! I usually make them last a few days by having portions of them as a snack with some cheese and Branston pickle. Mmmmmmm!

I could never eat a full one in one go! Even just a quarter can be a bit much for me in one go sometimes!

I don't eat meat or fowl (I do eat fish) but I've never understood the desire for vegetarian food that tastes like meat. Vege burgers, sausages and mince that pretend to be meat just make me gag - they all taste awful to me.

I'm not sure they taste like meat. I can't remember!! lol When I ask non veggies they tell me they're not terribly convincing.

I think it just harks back to the fact a lot of us were brought up eating that kind of food and it's sometimes easy to eat like that. I've become a good cook in the years I've been a veggie but when I first 'turned' I had to rely a lot on convenience veggie food because the meat equivalent was all I knew!

I just think of them as Protein burgers, or sausages - very space age.

When you think about it, it has to be shaped into something. Vegetarian 'blobs' don't sound too appealing.

They don't taste like meat to me either really. As Ruby Shoes said, it's just something convenient and tasty with a bit of substance to it. I do find it very nice.

The only vegetarian sausages I like are the Linda McCartney ones which don't attempt to taste like meat. The various Quorn ones are truly awful to my taste as are Quorn burgers.

I'm not keen on the Linda McCartney ones, for some reason. I do like the Quorn ones, but I don't have them often. I'm not keen on Quorn burgers either. The best veggie burgers I have ever had Tesco's frozen chargrilled vegetarian quarter pounders. The taste and the texture of them are a delight.

I tend to only really eat the redwoodfoods ones as not many of them are vegan Some of the Cauldron ones are ok.

I love vegetarian foods that taste like meat I didn't stop eating animals because they weren't tasty, I stopped it because of my personal beliefs on the subject, so I really enjoy all of the convincing meat alternatives.

but, I do understand how it could be gross, I know when I first stopped eating meat it was hard to eat meat substitutes without feeling weird because some of it was so meat-like.

That's still happens to me from time to time, despite being vegetarian for over 10 years. I think the last time it happened was with those VegiDeli flavoured slices by Redwood Foods. The idea of putting a meat-style slice between two slices of bread just felt weird - almost wrong. However after tasting it, I loved the stuff, and always get a pack when I'm in Morrisons.

I still eat some vegan meat substitues occasionally, but it does feel very weird when they taste a little bit too much like meat!

Now I've discovered tofu I much prefer it, as it's not trying to be meat and can take on any flavour you want.

I think your tastes just change naturally after a while. I used to be a cheese addict, and when I first went vegan I bought lots of the fake cheeses, but now I couldn't care less about it.
