Several failed recordings since update. Anyone else?

Since my machine told me it had automatically updated itself last week, nearly all my recordings have failed! When I say failed, I mean that there is nothing in the list of recorded programs to say it recorded.

However, I discovered something very interesting this evening. I wanted to start watching the first episode of Coronation Street at about 20:50. When I went to the recorded programs list, the first episode was listed but not the second one. I thought that rather odd, because before, the programs were listed as soon as they started recording, so you could start to watch it before it finished.

So I then went to the recording schedule and this said that the second episode WAS recording.

After watching the first episode, I then went back to the recorded programs list - but the second episode was not there!!

So despite the fact that the recording schedule said it was recording at the time, the program has not been added to the list, so whilst it may have recorded, it has not been added to the list and is therefore not accessible.

To date, this has been a great machine, but this latest update has just about wrecked it! Humax, take note!

Is there any way to revert back to the previous firmware (4.07?)

You can revert to previous versions of the software by downloading to a PC from the Humax site.

Can you confirm that you have carried out a reset to default settings. Even if you have I would recommend doing this again to see if that solves your problem.

Note 4.07 is not a previous version of the software that was downloaded, but a previous version of the loader. The current version of the loader is 4.09 but this can only be obtained through PC download not over the air.

The current version of the software which was downloaded over the air is PGXTF 1.00.21 normally referred to as version 21. See the site below for full information on software versions and how to download them.

I have done three default resets and the problem still persists.

My mistake - I realised after I posted it that I had quoted the loader software instead of the system software / firmware.

I am going to have to try and earlier one, because the machine is virtually useless at the moment. Last night, I tried some more recordings, and only one worked. Of the others, one that said it was recording never appeared in the list, but I don't know about the rest as I was in bed!

From what you describe I would guess that you have some sort of corruption in your system. The V21 software may have some problems but nothing like what you are getting.

A corrupt version of the software could be solved by reloading the software.

If you have a corruption in your file system, and that I am afraid seems more likely from what you describe, the only thing to do is to reformat your disk and lose your recordings unless you wish to go to the trouble of copying them first.

We have three of these machines in our family and although overall they have given excellent service, my daughters machine had to have the disk reformatted a few months ago when it became virtually unusable broadly as you have described, except this was not immediately after a software update. She was not very bothered about losing her recordings as she only generally stores children's programs for any length of time and there are plenty of them available to record.

I havent had any failed recording as of yet, but one strange recording yesturday.
Recoding Primeval which recorded from 19:34 - 20:35 which is fine. Now the strange part, Dancing on Ice recorded from 20:30 - 21:08 which im pretty sure I didnt even set to record.
I do have Dancing on Ice set as series link on sundays so maybe its linked up with that.
Its the strange recording times for the same channel that made me laugh a bit as I didnt think you could use both tuners on 1 channnel at the same time by selecting from the EPG.

Thanks for your help. In the end, I had to "...take the bull by the horns..." and reformat the hard disk - and it seems to have worked! But transferring around 100GB of data to a PC was not exactly fun!

Also, I have to say that it seems rather a co-incidence that the problems started the day the firmware was automatically updated!

Pleased to hear that a reformat has fixed your problem, albeit that you had to transfer a load of recordings to your PC.

I am not at all sure that the causes of file system corruptions on the 9200T are well understood and they do seem to be fairly rare. Although you have been unlucky I would very much doubt that it was a co-incidence that you got the problem immediately after the OTA software update. There have not been a large number of people reporting the need for a disk reformat, but there have been a few.

I've had the same a few times. I did a reset before and after the V21 upgrade. Some programmes have failed completely to record. I thought I must have been making some sort of mistake but on Saturday checked the EPG before going out and it was shown as to be recorded I came back to the house when the recording should have been in progress. It wasn't. I time shifted back to its start and started it manually.

I too have had numerous failed recordings - at first with AR and SL but after abandoning that I have had a good number with the autopadding on too. I formatted the disk a few weeks before the 0.21 OTR upgrade - seems I too need to try formatting it again - a right pain.

Hi.

I have had my 9200t for about a month, v15-v21.

I have never had a failed recording and i record 6-7 programs per day.

It does miss a few seconds off the beginning of most programs, but all the ends are their.

And mine is a re-condtioned 9200t, bought from HUMAX.

your problem is very strange??

regards

John.

After the OTA upgrade the receiver has been acting completely mental:-

1/ Randomly not recording series

2/ Randomly playing recording at the end of playback

3/ Complete lockup requiring reset.

Have they tested this release as the Beta seemd to be fine.

Mine seemed to work fine for a few days - series record and stuff. With the late starts of course.

However, it's now gone haywire. Missing recordings completely, or apparently recording them - but with a blank screen when attempting to replay them.

Have set it to autopad for the time being, with anything I would definitely feel bad about missing being alloted to my old Thomson 4000.

I has 2 failed/delayed recordings last night.

Set to record CSI, Intent, Horizon and Shameless.

Watched CSI (chaseplay) followed by recorded Horizon.

Intent & Shameless did not start at 11; they only kicked in once I had finished watching the recorded Horizon.

Before this all recordings had worked perfectly.

Anyone else?

This was definately an issue with V.20, but all has been OK with me since V.21. Can you confirm you're actually on V.21 and have done a default reset?

Update.

I had the Humax set to record Rockford, Ironside(1), Ironside(2) at 7.25,8.25.9.25 . This week Rockford has recorded every day, Ironside(1) has not recorded at all, Ironside(2) has recorded every day. All are marked as to be recorded with series link in the EPG. I have looked in the schedule and Irondide(2) is missing.

Since updating the firmware I have performed a reset twice, this occurred after that.

Hi, OP here.

Following the advice given to my original post on this thread I did another 'default setting' and went through the procedure to ensure that I am receiving all muxes from the same transmitter.

Since then, until last night, all my recordings have been made. The BBC recordings have been mainly accurate but ITV and Channel4 recordings have been quite inaccurate, missing sometimes several minutes from the start and/or end.

Earlier in the week I scheduled 'Banged Up Abroad' to tape on channel 5 using the guide. Since 5 don't offer series link, this is just an AR recording.

The recording failed completely. I noticed, while the programme was still running, that there was no entry in the programme list so I switched to channel 5 and checked the 'now and next' info which was indicating that the programme was in progress. There were no clashing programmes. 'Murder in mind' was set to tape on ITV3 and it's start time was directly after 'banged up' had finished. Murder in mind recorded OK.

I'm going to stick with it and give AR/SL another chance. Any ideas what caused this missed recording.

Mine has become totally unrelaible now. Doesn't record some programmes, records some of them over the top of others, whilst giving the programmes the wrong names.

I'm going to reformat the disk and do a reset to see if that helps. Otherwise I'll have to dig out a cable and install version 15 or something.

Yes I think that a format is the right thing to do; does sound like a corrupt file system.

... and nothing to do with 10.00.21.

Ours seems to be fine with v21, but it had gone bananas just after Christmas (while on v10 I think), so it had been reformatted about a month before the v21 update arrived.

Although suspicious of coincidences, I do wonder if some of these problems are just the 'normal' Hummy filesystem random auto-destruct feature working

Hmmm, seems to be working properly after the reformat and reset. I'll give v21 the benefit of the doubt for the time being.

Seems about time humax releases a new version of the firmware with a file system repair program instead (eg a humax version of scandisk!)

Do you mean people that had a pre 1.00.06 version on their 9200T and have never done a reformat post 1.00.06 update.

Our machine came from Humax (warranty replacement) with v10 on it. Not sure it was new or refurbed, but I'd hope they reformatted it before sending it out. It still fell apart 9 months later, so I'm not sure this is a problem that has completely gone away.

I have seen comments to the effect that the HDD used don't have some of the error correction stuff that PC discs have. If true I'd guess that could have an effect as well.
