Vestel Update Scheduled
TerryN
21-01-2008
The DTG website is showing an update for Vestel boxes next week. Currently there are no model numbers specified and the update is marked as provisional but I guess that proves that something is happening.

I didn't think v3.7 had FPg2 features in it e.g. series link?

Thats correct, however I understand that series link was available on some of the later Sharp T816 models.

I wonder which model this is for, there are so many out there at the moment. T825 is the latest hardware so maybe its for that. It would be nice if series link was added reliably to the T816s though....

Regarding series link for T816, that's version 6.7 (as used by Sharp). I fear this is probably just as buggy as the T825 software, so buggier than the T816 3.7 software. As I mentioned last month in some other threads, an update (v2.6 at the time, but it may turn out to be v2.7) was planned this month for the Wharfedale T825 HDMI models, so I assume this will be it.

Not wishing to dampen anyone's spirits, but there is a Vestel update due for non-pvr boxes (eg Goodmans GDB3) to give them the Teletext Extra EPG. Perhaps that is the update next week.

I hope this is it futaura! Keeping my fingers crossed (and toes) then the Wharfedale will be an absolutely brilliant PVR in my mind.

As the latest production of the Digihome non HDMI T825 model has been shipped with Version 2.7 would you expect the Version 2.7 OAD update (if that is what it proves to be) will apply to any other T825 non HDMI units that have been made or will be made in the near future? I suppose that begs the question whether the new Low Power hardware is still the T825 or whether that has now been superceded?

I was told 2.6 back in December, but have more recently been told that 2.7 is the latest right now. The HDMI units probably require a different software build to the non HDMI ones, and probably the LP ones a different build too. I'm pretty sure all the current Vestel units are now T825 based - they can be built with HDMI, CI slot, LP and USB as an option (Vestel Turkey told me that).

Hi futaura.

USB? I have noticed the new Argos Wharfedales are now low power and CA enabled (which is what the original satallite versions were I presume), but didn't know about USB support. Is this to access the HDD, or just provide easier firmware upgrade from flash? Great if it's going to be like the Humax, which incidently is now sold by Argos as well! Or at least will be. The only 'new' STB I can find currently available anywhere is the 160GB version of the non-HDMI Digihome DTR at £94.99. One of our local stores has two!

Regards,

Tim.

I wasn't implying that any of the Argos T825 based units have USB support - only that this is available as a hardware option to Argos, Sharp, Hitachi or whoever. I'm not aware of any T825 units that actually will have USB support. I don't know what the intended use of the USB support is. Regarding the new LP/CI models, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a repeat of the situation with the HDMI models in the last catalogue (i.e. will be a few months until they are available in-store).

Do you class the Digihome as "new"? I believe the recent stock of those in Argos are T825 with 2.7 software i.e. same as the HDMI units sold around Christmas but with software updated from 1.7 to 2.7 and without the HDMI ports.

Do we know what harware and software the Hitachi HDR162 DTR with 160GB HDD and Hitachi HDR082 DTR with 80GB HDD use. The Argos website doesn't even mention dual record but surely they must have that. I have the HDR161 which is T816 with Version 3.7 so surely the HDR162 must be an update from that? The Hitachi's above are available online and locally in stock in Newbury.

Well, the 160Gb Digihome is new, since there was only a 80Gb version in the previous catalogue. Presumably, since the Hitachi's have new model numbers, then those will be T825 based too. I can't imagine Vestel are keen to produce T816 units anymore, seeing as all software development was diverted to the T825, and going from experience regarding the T810->T816 transition.

It will be interesting to hear further on the T825 v2.7 software, especially if the upcoming OAD is for those Wharfedale users currently using v1.7. I really do hope significent improvements have been made, but I fear Vestel's software development has been moving in the wrong direction for a while now .

I have a Digihome PVR80 - 80GB, it has 2.4 software, is there anyway I can manually update the software? is the latest version 2.7?

PVR80 or DTR80? Or better still, check the label on the underside to find out if it is a T810, T816 or T825 model, and then we'll be able to tell you what the latest version is. I would guess yours is a T816. The units can be updated via the serial port using a PC.

They can be updated that way, but there are only two version for the T816 - 2.4 & 3.7.

If you have the 3.7 binary then go for it, but it does not appear to be available for download anywhere, so you'd have trouble actually achieveing a manual update for a T816.

There are other Versions for the T816 as mentioned in the posts above. e.g. Sharp has a 6.7 and Griundig a 4.7. Not that they are available for installation generally.

Yea, but I expect that they are for specific vendors. Not, as you say, that it matters.

Shame really. Nice box, let down by software that is well designed and great to use but with some really annoying easy win obvious bugs that will never be fixed.
