Where can I get the best exchange rate in the High Street for Dollars? Want to buy some now for my trip to Vegas in March because of the fluctuations in the markets so Travelex are out, as are any online ones.

M&S tend to have the best rates on the High Street.

M&S are said to be the best, you could try the Post Office though.

I was going to say M&S as well. My sister in law travels to America and always gets her from them.

Hi, TommyGavin76

We're off to Vegas in March too (8th -13th as part of a month long NYC/West coast trip).

The 'accountant' (OH) has found that the best rate she could find is from a local jewellers/pawnbrokers ???????

Other times we used M&S (as recommended above).

The rate seems to have dropped slightly recently but the difference between buying and selling always seems a bit of a rip off really.

Yes, I would also recommend M&S.

I use them every time I go to the states as I always find the exchange rate is better than anywhere else.

We're staying 'off strip' as we have been told it can be like trying to sleep in an amusement arcade, at the BW Mardi Gras which is next door to the Convention Center (sic).

We got a great price of 74 for 4 nights. Even the guy on the phone had to double check it. Guess how quick the credit card came out for that one

Post Office defo, nearly always the best deals. I wouldn't go through a travel agent.

Withdraw $$$ from US cash dispenser on arrival using a Nationwide Flexaccount ATM card (VISA). Better exchange rate than any high street vendor and zero commission.

Don't you start paying interest on it instantly though?

Not if it's a debit card. Certainly don't use a credit card for cash.

Get the bare minimum in cash before you go to cover airport taxis, tips etc, then get the cash as you go from an ATM out there.

Hey Tommy.

I know you've said Travelex are out, but I've found they can be quite good.

The last couple of times I've been away, I've gone to their website and purchased from them in advance. I'm sure you'll be able to order now for your trip in March. You have to specify the exact date, time and place you'll pick them up from (e.g. if you're going from Heathrow for example, you either choose Travelex check-in side or Travelex Terminal side).

Doing it this way you get a really good rate - it's far better than just going up to the counter on the day. In fact, when I did it for Polish currency a few months back, a friend of mine just bought from them on the day. He got the same amount of currency as me but it cost him about 20 more!

I must admit I don't know if the rate you'll get is better than Post Office or M&S, but it's probably worth a look.

Enjoy Vegas!

I us M&S - nearly always seem to have the best rates, and by using their credit card there are no charges and you get credits to help buy underwear for the trip!

Last year, on one occassion, we found Travelex on-line to give the best dollar rate, but only the one time.

I know of someone who has a Nationwide Flex Account just so they can use the ATM card for withdrawing cash abroad.

March isn't far enough in the future but if you're in a postiion to pay for your dollars a few months before you need them then I've heard good things about this place

Why would you want to buy far in advance for a holiday? The value of the dollar could go either way.

The poster stated credit card, which was why I was querying it.

I want to get money now as it's a decent rate but it has been falling steadily for a month or so.
