I had Tiscali TV installed on Saturday (on the second attempt they turned up). Every since I have been experiencing two problems :
1) Every minute of so - I get picture freezes and pixelation (ie bottom half of screen goes green) for about 0.5 secs. I often get a popping noise at the same time. After some investigation these seem to correspond to CRC/HEC errors on the ADSL line.
I notice my target SNR margin is 9dB giving me sync speeds of around 6.9 to 7.4 mbps. With BTw I was with SNR margin of 15dB. Now the Tiscai hardware is clearly superior to BTw and my old router but is having such a low SNR margin causing the CRC/HEC errors ? Tiscali seem incapable of upping the target SNR margin currently (080120-003114).
2) Once or twice a day the Tiscali TV box just switches into standby for no apparent reason. The Router shows OK and internet works fine. On turning on the TV box (black one with big green light but no PVR) it says that both ADSL and DTT (!) channels are unavailable. By turning ihe router off and on using the power switch at the back resolves the problem (080123-000561)
Whilst I like the Tiscali TV I do not want to waste time chasing resolution of these issues if basically these are design flaws. Are these resolvable or should I cancel due to unfit for purpose ?
