Is it possible to find out when Tiscali TV will be available in my area?
I am on the Kenilworth exchange in Warwickshire and have just reached the end of my broadband contract. I can't get sky or virgin due to the management company of the buildings not allowing it so thought Tiscali TV might be a good option.
I have been on samknows and am aware I can get Tiscali broadband but the only answer I can get from Tiscali with regards to the TV roll out is that it should be in my area by the end of 2008. I wondered if anyone knew any more about whether all places with a Tiscali internet connection are being set up for it or is it like when areas first went to broadband and cable whereby the more people in the area that register an interest the quicker it happens. Not 100% certain I want to sign up a years contract if I wouldn't be able to get the tv service until December 08. It may just be easier for me to move house in six months when my lease is up and get sky! I know some Tiscali people look on this forum so thought it may be worth asking the question. Thanks in advance for any help. |

Hi,
According to our records, your exchange is TTV enabled. Have you tried ordering online yet? |

Hi, I tried ordering online on Monday and was told it wasn't available in my area and was coming soon. I have since cancelled my BT Broadband but now have a tag on my line for 5 days so can't switch to the broadband until next Monday anyway. Samknows.com says my exchange is Tiscali Internet enabled but not TV however I appreciate you would probably have more up to date information. Fingers crossed it won't be too long before it is there then.

Actually reading a couple of other peoples posts they have said they have it without samknows saying they are enabled. Could I just ask is it worth trying to order through the sales line rather than the website? Is it possible the website just doesn't have the more recent updates on the system? Or should i just hold on and wait until the website says I can get it?
Thanks for taking the time to answer. |

Can I ask why you cancelled your BT Broadband install? You could have had BT Vision with it.

Maybe because BT Vision is expensive and not very good.

Right, long story made as short as possible.
Ordered BT Broadband and BT Vision six months ago. they did the line speed test etc and booked an install date for vision. I booked a day off work and they didn't show up. Phoned to ask why and they said the engineer had run out of time. I assumed I would get it first thing the next day but was told the next available install was 6 weeks away so I cancelled the BT Vision part of the order and got a freeview box with a hard drive and said I would re-order BT Vision after Christmas when hopefully the backlog would have cleared (at the time they had just announced they had Setanta) After 6 months of the homehub not working wirelessly propely and painfully slow broadband speeds compared to when I was on AOL I went to order BT Vision but was told after doing a line speed test I was unable to get the Vision service. As that was the only reason I switched from a very good AOL service I was less than impressed. Also with BT you can only ever speak to someone in India and that takes forever. I'd been on hold for over an hour at one point just to be told I needed to speak to someone else (I hung up after the second 45 minutes on hold) If you try the email customer service it's still India and they don't understand what you are typing. They just cut and paste whichever standard answer most suits your question. My email was roughly what I have written here and two days later I receive a number on which to order BT Vision. In the end I wrote to the one address I could find in England, had a call a week later from a nice lady who admitted I hadn't had decent service and let me cancel my contract without penalty which is how I find myself on here trying to see if Tiscali is where my future lies! |

It hard to tell whether any ISP will provide a decent service. These forums are full of people complaining, not surprising as why should you bother seeking out a forum if you are happy?
The two most common complaints are poor customer service and line speed. Have a look here http://www.thinkbroadband.com/isp/compare.html And compare the surveys of reliability/customer satisfaction. Homechoice is a bit better than Tiscali and BT (which are about identical) Zen is the best by far according to the survey . I've been a ADSl customer for years (I was on the trial on the first exchange to be ADSL enabled). I used Zen for several years and they were great. However, they were no better or worse than Homechoice (although Zen did miss-bill me) and the reason I suspect is less to do with the company and more to do with my circumstances. I'm lucky I'm near the exchange, my line is good, the install(s) went well and I never ask for anything to change. So, if you want a reliable ISP, pay for it. If you want the cheapest service, expect shitty customer services and problems if anything goes wrong. You maybe lucky with a cheap ISP. |

I agree really. It doesn't matter who you speak to they have all had a bad experience with one service provider or another. At least Tiscali is very good value so if the service is poor at least it's cheap. BT isn't even competetively priced!
In truth I am far more interested in being able to get Sky Sports than I am concerened about the broadband but if you go into these things with low expectations how disappointed can you be! |

Here's a story about the Pipex customers move to Tiscali network. It seems Tiscali are taking customers paying for a premium service and giving the crappiest service in return. Looks like I'm going have to change my provider, from the attitude coming from Tiscali, it looks like they will be shutting down the Tiscali TV service anyway. Tiscali seem to only be interested in the lowest prices and poorest quality service they can give. Read the comments, Zen is the ISP to choose. |

A brief update. I have rung Tiscali to see if Tiscali TV is available and they are adamant the exchange hasn't been enabled so I guess I will just sign up for broadband and wait to hear from them!
