Found this place on the net. They have one for $35. You must be able to get one similar in the UK for about £20

I do not know if this is any good for you but in an advert in DVD Review mag there was a optical to coax S/PDIF for £59.95 (+ £5 P&P).

This is what it said "converts both ways - allows you to interface between DVD, Surround Amps, DAT & Minidisc, etc. 2Toslink & 2RCA digital coax in/out sockets".

This was from http://www.lektropacks.co.uk

You should be able to get a cheaper one than £60. You only need 1 coax to opt. the one above has multiple. You should be able to get for for about £20. I have seen load on US site for about $35.

Thanks for your help.

The $35 one is only sold in America and has a $31 delivery charge, although it may still be the cheapest option.

Hi Kemo

I see that you want the Sony HTK-215 for your computer. You might be better off saving the £60 and saving up for a DVD player. I used to use a computer to play DVDs but then I got a LG 3350E DVD player. It is so much better. I have connected a 5.1 decoder system to my computer before and the effect wasn't that great. Now I have a Sony HTK-215 connect to my LG 3350E and it sounds absolutely amazing and the picture looks amazing. I'll never look back. Trust me, save your money and get a DVD player and the Sony HTK-215 when you can afford it. It will be worth it.

I am not actually watching DVD's on my PC. I am sending the picture and sound to my TV or Projector (when available).

You can buy Coaxial SPDIF to Optical converter boxes from Maplin Electronics (www.maplin.co.uk).

They also sell Optical - Coaxial SPDIF boxes. Both kinds of units are £19.99 each and come with mains PSU.

Alternatively, you could buy a TOSLINK receiver and build a small circuit board.... (see http://members.ozemail.com.au/~atrac/) for some useful info. Instead of connecting the output of the toslink receiver to a soundcard though, you'd connect it to your decoder or amp.

OR - you could just go the whole hog & do what I've done to my Sony minidisc unit recently - it only had optical out, no coaxial out, so I added one myself. Drilled a hole in the rear of the case, put a phono (RCA cinch) socket in the hole and wired it to the TOSLINK (optical) transmitter module. Works like a dream!
