Will the 970 Hd recorder retune for Lanzarote and how would you do it please.

I have the same question for the 46W3000 tv please.
I believe PAL B/G is the system.

Thanks for any info.

auto tune after selecting pal b/g

Thanks Niall

The Lanzarote system is the same as Spain.

I phoned Sony UK before putting this on the forum and after being passed around by their customer services for 20 minutes they told me they will not work in another country??.

When I look at the spec on the TV, Pal b/g is listed so I have a strong feeling they could be wrong.

I haven't had chance to look at the tuning spec on the 970 yet to see if Spain and Pal b/g are listed.

My plan is to purchase here before we move because the models there are rather behind, I just need to be certain before I buy.

Is it really that simple with both the Recorder and the TV!!?.

As I've said before here (many times now), you haven't spoken to 'Sony' you've spoken to a third party company who Sony pay to do their customer support. So they know nothing about it, only an absolute minimum on the computer screen they read from (idiot chart, like Sky).

Both your TV and Recorder are European models, one model made for all of Europe, and simply need telling which country they are in. When they power up from new, they ask for the country you are in, and the OSD language you want, just go back and set those options accordingly.

We sold a guy two Sony TV's this week to take out to Spain.

I've just been into the sony website and Pal b/g is listed for the 970 recorder and the 46w3000 tv, so I'm puzzled why they say it won't work !!!!!!!

Thanks Nigel for you reply on the TV.

It appears that these Sony could well do with some training for these individuals, they must be potentially losing many sales like mine.

From what Niall says it seems to be straightforward, just retune after the move.

Do you need to do anything to get back to the "power up from new menu" after the move, because I will have already used the set, if you see what I mean..

Does the same apply to the 970 recorders please ?

One other possibly minor point

Most of the European Sony TVs are manufactured in Spain

Hi Rick

It seems a sensible option BUT

The problem in Lanzarote is that models are behind and they want silly prices for them. I have spoken to a large dealer in spain who has the later models in stock but won't deal with residents in Lanzarote ?

We would also would like to use the equipment here until we have a house sale agreed and are ready to move.

Did you mean that that because they are manufactured in spain there should be even less of a problem with compatability after the move?.

Thanks

I doubt they get any training at all?, it's been useless since Sony farmed it out to the third party.

However, it's really not a question Sony UK would probably know about, as it's not a UK question.

There's usually a "reset to original condition" menu option, or you can just alter the country settings.

As far as I know, again it's a European wide model.

Its a shame Sony HQ don't do some discreet quality assurance checks on this third partys technical advice section regarding the level of knowledge and answer.

Is there any method of checking the point you made about whether or not they are European wide models. I am just trying to be absolutely certain all is OK before I buy ?.

Hey, thank goodness for the forum.

Thanks again for you input.

To be honest, it's so common, you don't even notice anymore - if I should happen to install one in the next few days I'll have a good look.

http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/3113760121.pdf

on page 133 of manual there are settings for analogue settings and if yo go down the page on right hand side you will see country region settings

SO i think you wont have to choose anotheer language just select the tuning system as for ease of use you choose english it will be oreset to uk spec tuning system

and on page 134 and 135 it tells you what countries it works in ! and systems

PAL B/G D/K I/SECAM L
So,d.b,you should be fine.

Hate to throw a possible spanner in the works but all the discussion above seems to centre on analogue TV.

I have just returned from another Canary Island and I believe I saw something to the effect that the Canaries will be the first part of Spain to go Digital only and very soon. Whilst I believe that digital standards in Spain are the same as the UK it should be checked out.

Hi Gilson

Thanks for your reply. If you come across the reference to the above please let me know, it will be very useful.

this is where it can get complicated very quickly !!

The UK is facing possibly a change to DVB-2T in freeview.

So spain could go straight to this and will your Sony work ?? And is it worth the risk ??

I would still buy the sony and get a cheap freeview box if your recorder doesnt work.... and thats a big IF

you could go out there and end up getting SKY and you will need a separate box so buy the Sony and wait and see

Hi niall

Thanks for the info. I decided to buy the TV and 970 yesterday because there was a good promotion deal.

I havn't had time yet to study the digital tuner spec on the TV or 970 to see if they will meet the new standard, but it seems that the Analogue will be no problem.

A stand alone tuner/freeview box which may include Hi Def I believe is on the cards for freesat, but I haven't seen any details yet.

If you have any further details it would be most helpful.

I think you will have to wait and see and £20 for a freeview box is not bad

the recording to hard drive wont matter where the signal comes from e.g. freeview , camcorder etc its just another signal via scart

Sky HD may be the way forward as I think sky will drop a lot of prices when BBC/ITV launch their freesat service

its so easy to work and its all in one box ......... but you will still need the hard drive on your recorder so you dont have so many failed recordings to disc

its a waiting game and this summer should be interesting
