Here's a good link for those trying to get a handle on Cameron's dialect/accent...

Only joking..... I like Cameron's sing-song accent (mind you it sounds very funny when he's bitching). |

Originally posted by Khayman I too like Cameron's accent, as you say it is quite soft. I am originally from 40 miles SW of you and now live in the NE and when my neighbour starts in the 'Doric' I don't have a clue what she is on about Agreed. A friend married a woman from the Shetlands, and sometimes I had great difficulty understanding a word she said. Cameron's accent is quite soft compared to the broader ones that exist up here. I like it, certainly much nicer than the Glaswegian I speak. .lu |

Some people in Orkney talk like Cameron, he certainly has what I think of as a typical Orkney accent. To my ears a much more pleasant accent than the further north Shetland one.
Like any place they have people in Orkney with a mixture of accents as a number of people choose to move there to live for a variety of reasons, taking their own accents with them and slowly acquiring parts of the local accent and word useage. |

Yes, Cameron's accent is a soft version of Orcadian: if you look at a map of the island group, you'll see an island called North Ronaldsay at the very top: now - that is a *very* strong accent....you'd find a lot of Orcadian on Mainland (the larger blob of land) would have trouble with an accent from there!
I find the lilt lends itself wellto drama and rhetoric - hence why Cameron sounds so 'passionate' (vocally) at times. |
