'Bad Disk' from Silvercrest DVD player
I have a second hand Silvercrest DVD player which will play shop-bought DVD's, but will not play my home-recorded DVD's. It states, 'bad disk'. Anyone have a solution? Is this something to do with DVD +/- complications? These home DVD's work perfectly on 2 other machines (not Silvercrest).

Just buy a brand new one for like, £17. Most new ones will play anything.

The problem is I record on a Sony 710 on HDD then transfer to DVD, the problem was the formatting on the Sony, which played OK but would not on the stand alone DVD player. After a few attempts at hair pulling, reformatting cured it,if you do not have the original recorder, very difficult on a cheap player, a new one may not cure the problem. Also Silvercrest is a good make, they have a web site, its Comag who make them , Maplin are about to stock Comag Silvercrest HD recievers at £135, in the UK its usually Lidl that sell Comag, but abroad both Lidl & Aldi sell them. Comag have replied to me via e mail on a problem I had with a sat reciever. Again its good gear Bob |

I bought a silvercrest 6510 dvd player from lidl in december06 , it all worked fine for about 3-4 months. Then I started getting the odd disc say bad disc or on some discs the picture kept on freezing. This gradually got worse and after 6 months of having it virtually every disc I put in it would come up with bad disc. I still had the reciept so when lidl were next doing a dvd player I took it back said it was faulty and lidl agreed to exchange it for the dvd player they were doing that week (a silvercrest 6506 (was the same price as the 6510)). I think mine had a 3 year guarantee so if you had the reciept when you bought it second hand or you can get hold of the original reciept you may be able to get a exchange/refund (may depend on when it was originally purchased). If you cant get hold of the reciept then you could try asking lidl or silverscreen how faulty products are done without a reciept (if they want to know the date of manufacture/serial number/model ect you might find this on the back of the player (its in the centre on the two players I've had). The new dvd player seems to be ok so far.
