I store potatoes, carrots, leeks, garlic, other root veg, in a cool dark drawer in the kitchen.

Any other veg I store in the fridge. I have no idea if this is a rational division or not.

Ideas please? Preferably with some substantiation as to your reasons, not "because that's what my gran did"!

There are some tips here.

I do much the same as you for root veg. Except garlic, which I keep in a sealed box in the fridge - stops it growing.

I keep tomatoes away from the fridge as well, as the article suggests. Though I didn't know that mushrooms give off ethylene, maybe that's why my lettuce turns brown so quickly?

I keep mushrooms , tomatos, and carrots in the fridge, but as I buy fresh as i need them they are never in there for long. potatoes, sweet potatoes, garlic etc I keep on the side, but they get used quickly too.
cauliflower and cabbage in thefridge, likewise beans, baby corn.
again though, nothing is in there more than a day or two.

Thanks for the ideas and useful web site.
I've been looking in supermarkets at which veg they have in the chill cabinets and which are on ordinary shelves, and I can't see any great logic to it.

Sprouts, carrots. caulis, cabbage, cress, tomatoes. I have started to put bananas in the bottom of the fridge, I find they keep better, I read that they turn black in the fridge but I have not found this to be the case.
