Which veg to store in the fridge and which not?
I store potatoes, carrots, leeks, garlic, other root veg, in a cool dark drawer in the kitchen.
Any other veg I store in the fridge. I have no idea if this is a rational division or not. Ideas please? Preferably with some substantiation as to your reasons, not "because that's what my gran did"! |

There are some tips here.
I do much the same as you for root veg. Except garlic, which I keep in a sealed box in the fridge - stops it growing. I keep tomatoes away from the fridge as well, as the article suggests. Though I didn't know that mushrooms give off ethylene, maybe that's why my lettuce turns brown so quickly?

I keep mushrooms , tomatos, and carrots in the fridge, but as I buy fresh as i need them they are never in there for long. potatoes, sweet potatoes, garlic etc I keep on the side, but they get used quickly too.
cauliflower and cabbage in thefridge, likewise beans, baby corn. again though, nothing is in there more than a day or two. |

Thanks for the ideas and useful web site.
I've been looking in supermarkets at which veg they have in the chill cabinets and which are on ordinary shelves, and I can't see any great logic to it. |

Sprouts, carrots. caulis, cabbage, cress, tomatoes. I have started to put bananas in the bottom of the fridge, I find they keep better, I read that they turn black in the fridge but I have not found this to be the case.
