My favorite oven chips are McCain's Home Fries, and I don't find them at all "very dry and cardboardy" tasting, especially if I have lots of salt and vinegar on them!

Are you bumping a 5 year old thread in the hope somebody has invented better tasting oven chips?

Do you know how EASY oven chips are to make from scratch (and quick) AND more tasty!?

I don't even peel the potato - just cut up into chip shapes and pour some oil onto a baking sheet. Roll the chips around on this (to coat). Season and bake in a hot oven - about Mk. 6 20-25 mins upper centre (depending on how crowded the baking sheet is with chips).

Incidentally - Marks & Spencers have the best, tastiest loose baking potatoes (Maris Piper). You'll never buy an oven chip again!

The best ever oven chips have got to be McCains Gorgeous chips, available from Sainsburys and Waitrose. They are simply devine, a little but more expensive and not as many chips as your standard bags but you are paying for the quality....must try them

I've been surprised at the Asda oven french fries, they actually nearly taste like fast food french fries.

I very rarely eat chips for health reasons but i treated myself at Christmas to a bag of Sainsbury own brand french fries style oven chips ..............only a pound for quite a big bag

M&S frites are clearly the outright winner of the M&S oven chip war, and anyone suggesting otherwise will be first against the wall come the revolution.

Aunt Bessie's Crispy Homestyle Chips 900g £1.50 Heron Foods. I love 'em! AB Crispy Homestyle Roasties too are delicious. Compared to other brands the texture is excellent and never any green roasties or substandard chips. I bought a bag of McCain Roasts only a couple of weeks ago and had to throw away 5 green ones...never again!

I really dislike oven chips so I agree. Usually find they need a quick boil first though to help them on their way.

Although I prefer to do chips in my fryer, boil them first, quickly chill in the freezer, then fry at 130, chill again and then fry at 180.

If I'm just wanting something dead quick I do wedges or sweet potato fries in the oven. The sweet potatoes don't need boiling beforehand but most regular spuds do.

The triple cook method here really is the best. Much nicer than any oven chip and a lot cheaper too.

Unfortunately it takes at least 45mins to make them and you don't always have that much time.

I like mcain's southern fries if i am using oven chips.
