nokia 6230

i`ve just inherited my sons old phone (nokia 6230).
it has a 512mb memory card containing about 85 songs.
when i try to assign these as ringtones/message alert tones, sometimes they work sometimes they dont.
they are all mp3 format because they play ok when not used as ringtones.
it seems like when the battery is low it won`t try to locate the selected ringtone, - could this be a case of the phone not wanting to use a lot of battery life to locate the song ?
is a 512mb memory card ok to use with the 6230 ?
is it because i have too many songs to browse through ?
i`ve tried using a brand new battery (so called longer life - 900mAh - from e-bay) but still the same.
even the new battery needs charging nearly every day !
i know this phone is a bit of a dinosaur but any advice would be appreciated, cheers, banksy.

512Mb is fine for a 6230. As for the ringtones, I think it may be to do with the file size, the phone has to hold the whole track in its internal memory, when memory is low it will dump things like ringtones and the current theme in favour of the built-in one.

The best thing to do is to make a smaller version of any track you want to use as a ringtone. Use something like mp3Directcut on your PC.

thanks for the reply,
if it is the memory, how come one day it works, then next day it doesn`t ?
by the way, do you have a view on my battery life - the fact it needs charging every day, it`s supposed to be brand new. i only got last saturday (19th), & it`s a 900mAh (aren`t they supposed to last longer than my nokia BL-5C) ?
thanks again, banksy.

How much free internal memory you have, will vary according to how you have used the phone. Just as with a PC. We are not talking about the phone's Flash Memory (what you see when you look in the Gallery) or Memory Card but the equivalent of a computer's RAM.

As for the battery, they can take a few charges to reach full capacity. But it may be a dodgy battery.

how long should a new fully charged battery last approx ?

When you first use a fully charged new battery you might find it doesn't last as long as you expect. After a few charges it should be up to maximum capacity.
