Its not a no. Its just that only T-Mobile can answer that question; all you can do is ask politely and see what they say.

they wanted £30 after 2 years on contract from my mate to unlock his. He was really polite on the phone to them too. If you get any luck, post and pm me the name of the person or extension so I can pass it on to him because he's still angry and wondering what to do. Apparently they also won't give you the PAC code for free until the last day of your contract, causing you to go a few days without a phone or use PAYG. Lousy co.

T-Mobile have to apply to the manufacturer of the handsets for the subsidy pin (the code to unlock it) the charge is £15 and I've never seen it been given free, its an administration charge for them to apply to Nokia or whatever and the length of time it involves (28 working days ususally) proves it can be quite a lenghty and timeconsuming process.

Why should you be given a PAC code free of charge when you are still inside the 12/18 months that you agreed to to move to a different network? Doesnt really make sense for them to loose out so you can take your number to another network, and no it doesnt mean your without a phone it means that you pay an extra couple of days until the number ports out of the network, and if you dont want to do that then give your 30 days notice for the contract to end on the last day of your 12/18 months.

My mate is 4 months out of an 18 month contract, so well within his rights. Tesco, a PAYG operator, unlocked my SE phone after I'd spent £30 by sending a code. It's hardly as difficult as you make out, but is a money making scheme. Mate was happy to stay with T Mobile if they offered him a good deal, which they didn't.
