Can you realistically look at the internet on any phone?
Ignoring the expensive phones, can you really satisfyingly do this? (I want something to do during the lunch hour at work)

iPhone is the best for this or if you have Wi-Fi access at work you could get an iPod Touch.

You can't have the ultimate Internet Experience with a phone but Opera Mini is a good Java based browser that comes pretty close and it can be installed on most of the phones out now.

Get yourself a Nokia 6120 for £99.99 payg on 3 or free on contract, has by far the best web browser out there at the minute and you can add unlimited web access (well up to 1gb per month) for an extra £5 per month. Its the same web browser used in other nokia s60 phones like the n95 and n95 8gb. I have been using it now for 5 months and nothing compares to it, i work in a mobile phone shop and having seen all the other phones types and browsers out there I highly recommend this one above all others.

Not sure if you would consider the Nokia N73 expensive but using Opera Mini on an N73 is pretty good surfing.
If i had a wireless keyboard it would be even better. |

The K800i's web browser is superfast - standard quality though.

The iPhone however is by far in a completely different leauge, the only handset where you can do the "real" internet rather than a mobile version of it really, I use it all the time for browsing, its not far behind using a laptop for usability, and clearly looking at full pages. |

The main problem with browsing websites on a mobile handset is that the screens are small.
Pretty much all Java-enabled phones will have a web browser, or can be installed with Opera Mini, but you're still stuck with a tiny screen which is where the "expensive" handsets win. |

I enjoy using the internet on my Moto Razr Maxx V6 as the RAZR's have nice big screens and the v3x, v3xx and V6 Maxx have a large resolution.
Opera Mini is the way to go for browsing!

try the K850
... which has a bigger screen, or the W880 fro SE. Download the Opera Mini as i think it has a good interface.
and make sure you take out an inclusive data package and get a 3G sim card, too. The SE-W960 is a very nice handset (but pricier, of course) but it does have symbian and built in WiFi/3G |

on my sony ericsson k550i i have opera mini and i think its brilliant - its a million times better than the standard SE browser
![]() i have the £7.50 unlimited (250mb) bolt on and i use my phone to check my e-mail, bidding on ebay, news and stuff like that. I've even shopped online with my phone (hmm is that actually secure??) I also use the rss feeds on my phone, which automatically update at 6am, so i always wake up to the news already loaded onto my phone ![]() the screen size is only 170x220 but its still very useable and its very useful i can browse the web almost anywhere, can browse during work or even do a google search anytime i need to know something ![]() I also have EDGE so its a bit faster than GPRS. (im thinking of getting 3g though with three) |

on the N-range of devices "some of which are a little cheaper now" there is a good internet browser, the 6300 on Vodafone comes with opera mini instlalled already for standard internet browsing needs. There are alot of other options out there but you will never get full support with flash etc and java as the devices do not have the software installed as standard.

If you have a Nokia S60 phone then full desktop like browsing is coming very soon
you'll be able to watch videos on the youtube site + WMV videos and Quicktime which will wipe the floor with the iPhone browser. http://www.symbian-freak.com/news/00...le_browser.htm can't wait till this is out

. I have an SPV E650 so I can connect to my company or home wifi and access these very quickly. You can even stream ok quality movies and pretty good quality radio over wifi using windows mobile media player.

For a sub-£100 budget phone it does the job ok, but I used Opera on my n95 a bit, its too fiddly for real use, but ok for looking up train times if you need too. Not the best by a long way though, so I strongly disagree.

Also whats the obession with the iphone? I used a friend of mines for a couple of hour's and its nothing special the fact that its only 2g makes checking emails and surfing the web a painful experience only worth using in a wifi area, the camera is poor and the phone bulky! The fact that its tied to one network with no subsidy makes it very expensive! The truth is you can much better phone's than the iphone at a much better price. If you want a decent ipod though get a touch, a very good wifi media player which is all the iphone is really
