SONY ERICSSON P800 any feedback from owners
I am thinking about buying this phone on either Orange or Virgin to save having to carry both an organiser and phone. Does anybody who owns one have any feedback. CHEERS

Its the BEST phone I have ever owned. Ive had little problems with it, can do all I want including surf full internet, has full email client and proper bluetooth not the half standard Nokia goes with. I cant recommend this phone enough.

the games on it are awsome.... especially the racing one which uses the little wheel on the side to steer and has touch screen accellerate and brake... ring tones sound great and the screen is bright colourfull and clear. one proble is the stylus is a bit fiddly

Don't have one myself but my mate does and I've played with it lots.
Its a really great phone if a smidge on the bulky side for my liking - but thats hardly surprising when you consider all the features it has. The handwriting recognistion on the touchscreen is really nice - it might just be my imagination but I think it works more reliably than the system on my Compaq iPaq. The ringtones are great and the fact that it can play standard .wav files is an advantage. The browser is nice but be aware that you can quite easily run up fairly massive bills using it! It has built-in handsfree - basically plonk it on your desk and use it like a standard speakerphone. I've noticed though that your voice really does sound like a Dalek thats fallen into a swimming pool sometimes (but then a lot of handsfree/speakerphones sound like that!). The desktop stand/charger works really nicely and works fairly well with the handsfree facility. The screen is really nice and bright, its very clear and the menu structures in the OS is easy to navigate. The built-in SD slot provides a handy means for extra storage whether for video clips, sounds, pictures or whatever. I can't remember what capacity it is but there's an SD card in the box with the phone. The pictures that the camera takes aren't astounding in terms of digital cameras but I think they're some of the best I've seen from a phone. The first thing my mate did when he got his was to remove the button flip from the phone and replace it with the standard blanking plate. The 'virtual flip' works quite well although sometimes the interface can be a bit odd - sometimes what looks like it should be a menu isn't - you've got to press the virtual softkey underneath it to make it do anything. A nice phone but unfortunately out of my price range just now

The P810 should be out quite soon, so i would say you should wait. The keypad is now a wired to the phone, which is a massive advantage. It's also got a 1.3mp camera, so quality will be a lot better - the current quality of pictures are not nearly as good as Nokia. Doesn't look as nice as the P800 IMO though, but it is supposed to be smaller.
I do like my P800 though, but it does seem to be a prototype compared to the P810. Pics can be seen at http://mobile.burn.com/news.jsp?Page=2&Id=375 Edit: As for it replacing your PDA, that depends on what you use the PDA for. The P800 isn't as functional as the IPAQ for example. |
