Do you think this will be a good move for the lads? I hope it will be, seeing as they've grown up a bit and at the moment they don't really get recognised for their songwriting. I think it'll either go really well or really badly, lol, but good luck to them!

A `mate`got me the Wonderland tour DVD for Christmas as a joke. I watched it and was surprised at just how good they are. They certainly don`t deserve to be labelled just a boy band.

I think the damage has been done, to be honest. They won't be taken seriously as a band or as songwriters, and they risk alienating their audience if they try to be more "credible".

I'm not knocking them, though. I think they've written some pretty decent songs and are quite talented.

They seem nice enough lads, but I think they've kind of had their day.

Hence wanting to leave their record company, they don't like the way they are being promoted and marketing. Yes, fair enough, the whole "text your mobile and we'll nick your credit in return for a video of us dossing about" and umpteen top of the pops etc means they are getting promoted to the teen girls who buy their records but they obviously want to change their direction and get away from that.

A nice idea but whether it works or not only time will tell. They do have a good fanbase I just hope they don't loose or alienate any of them if and when they leave/change/evolve into the next stage of their career.

They are really good live
and they write some bloody amazing songs which funny enough the label won't release
Mcfly have many reasons why they are leaving the label
They had to do a Greatest hits they wasn't happy about
the way they are promoted the whole txt download thing

They release the 4th studio in july and tour arenas in the uk in nov and thats then end of them with Island

i think it's a great move - they are amazing live and write all their own songs, which i think have great melodies, and i don't think they deserve their boyband label. I don't see how their music is classed as different to say, The Feeling or The Kooks (aside from their first song!!)

alot of papers, mags and music critics had said that Mcfly should have released Too close to comfort from their 2nd album Wonderland as it was very different and could hav opened them up to a wider audiance Mcfly and fans had asked for this track to be released but the record label said no

McFly really don't get the credit they deserve, especially when it comes to songwriting. I saw them do an interview on This Morning back in November last year, and Tom has written more number one songs than The Beatles, U2 and a lot of other huge name artists that I can't recall now. It's a shame they don't get recognised for it really. They are amazing live, and as others have said, it seems they haven't been happy with their record label for a while now so I think this is a good move for them.
They're not stupid, and they've still got the same great management, so I think they'll do just fine in the future. The changes won't happen anytime soon though, as their new album isn't due out until Summer, and then a full arena tour in Autumn. I think it could be the start of 2009 before we see any big changes with them, to be honest.

LOL, what a coincidence... "Too Close For Comfort" and "Bubblewrap" are two of my favourite McFly songs as well. TCFC definitely would have made for a good single.

Ithink the plan is to Do abit around europe for the first time ever as Mcfly have only released here and japan
then a single album single tour then that will be the end of them with Island records
so 2009 will be a fresh start

I think Too close for comfort would have gone in at number 1 and spent afew weeks their
as it was much more mature and it showed just how good they are at writing

A question to McFly fans - why do they sing in whiney American accents when they're from places like Bolton? For example, that horrible song 'Sarrry's not geuuud eneuufff'.
Busted also used to do this. James Bourne seemed to be convinced that he was American. What's the point? It's so false.

You can't divorce money-making and releasing albums on major record labels, regardless of what singer or band is in question. They ALL make money regardless of whether it's from thirty-somethings or young girls.

I think for fans that have followed them for a long time it'll be a good thing, because the band have grown up and those fans will have grown up with them. I was 12 when they released 5CIHH and I'm now 16 which is the same age as Dougie was when they released that single! So I'm now more interested in the 'serious' stuff than the silly things they have to do on kids' TV and in magazines (I do still watch whatever kids' programmes they're on, though )!

For the 'younger' fans, maybe they won't like it as much.

We'll just have to wait and see

"Sorry's Not Good Enough" is probably my favourite single they've done so far, and I can't say I've noticed them singing it like that.

James Bourne, however, is a different story, lol.

Anyone over 11 should be able to see right through bands like Busted and Mcfly, I wonder if Mcfly have another Band behind them when they play live as Busted did?

Mcfly i'm sorry to say girls mCFLY are just there to take your money, just like The Beatles when they first started and Take That and all the other pretty biy bands in between.

Its a formular that has worked for years and years and will always be with us.

Real music fans don't go to watch bands like Mcfly.

You expect me to believe he's written more than 17 number singles?

Yeah sure he has and the Pope encourages condoms as well.

And what exactly do you define real music?

I'm pretty sure the likes of mcfly and beatles actually had a passion for their music. any earnings they make from it is just a bonus.

Tom's sister Carrie has said that they actually have already left Island and at the moment are on their own.

I think its a good move, they really do deserve more credit. For those that are like " Haha, they want more credit for their songs...whatever," McFly have song brilliant lyrics, its just that their stupid Label wouldn't let them release the songs we loved most for some stupid reason unknown.

I'm thankful they have finally had the chance to leave Island and go elsewhere.

I'm slightly worried as to whether or not it will do them good or not though. It will either make them or break them.

By the way, Tom has written 10 number ones. That person who said he had written more than The Beatles is wrong. He has written more than U2, Queen and others though. Well done to him.

I work in the travel industry, and Airtours had it as their music on hold for over a year, so believe me, I am very familiar with the song... and it is sung in a cod-American accent, for no apparent reason.
Admittedly not as extreme as James Bourne, who even talks like that sometimes, but I still dont see the point.

Sometimes? More like all the time!

I can't say I've ever heard anyone say its sang with an American accent before and have never noticed it myself.
