Are There Any Decent Chippys Left?
I have found it practically impossible to get decent chips lately, You either get one of 2 things, you get a greasy/lardy/soggy mess or you get a hard half cooked attempt. I like my chips nice and crispy with practically no grease but apart from McDonalds fries it seems impossible to get, and then theres the use of these little yellow foam boxes, all the condensation builds up and again you have a soggy mess
Grr rant over |

My chippy has been getting worse for a while now. I also don't like these new enviromentally friendly boxes, they smell funny and leave a nasty taste on the food.
I do howver hope that our chippys don't go the way of McDonalds, how long until we are a piece of McAmerica? |

Yes i know what you mean about the yellow plastic boxes. I find if you put the chips on a plate it helps dry them out.

It's years since I had a decent bag of fish and chips with a bag of batter and swimming in salt and vinegar.
I think they use different (healthier, yuk) stuff to cook it in now and have totally ruined a British institution. Chips look anemic these days. |

I live above a chippy - but I wouldn't eat anything out of it! When we fancy fish and chips, we go to one about half a mile away - they are really good; so much so, the place is always heaving.

What always fascinates me about fish & chip shops is how seldom customers seem to actually be buying fish. Most I see prefer to order all the horrible manky stuff like dodgy pies and pasties and gut-wrenching sausages. Maybe that's just people around here though.

My local chippy is great. It didn't used to be, but then it exploded about ten years ago and they built a new one in it's place. Ever since, it's been the best in the area.
There's one girl who piles on the chips (which are delicious), we like her
