Does anyone else run into this problem?

I had a nice call with Virgin today about it who said they will refund me the money for the failed attempts, but we havnt managed to come to a solution.

Basically, about 25% of the time I connect to 3G/GPRS the connection fails.. but the phone has transferred some data to try and make the connection which is charged at 1 or 2p. So as I keep trying to connect each time I get a small charge untill I make a successfull connection.

The result is a string of 1ps and 2ps on my bill.

Its a bit annoying.. Though not huge costs it still adds up to about a £1 each month. But coupled with Virgins £5 a MB using data is quite ugly on Virgin Mob!

Wish they would hurry up with a data bundle!!!

You need to work out whether the connection problem is with your phone or the network. My guess is it is the phone as otherwise there would be other Virgin customers complaining.
To decide, see if you can find someone with a Virgin Mobile and swap SIM cards. If the problem follows the phone, then it is the phone at fault. If the problem follows the SIM, it is the SIM/Network.

Im pretty sure its not the phone as the phone I am using broke and was sent for warranty repair. In the meantime I was using an older 2G phone and I still had the same occasional failed connections and small charges.

Then when I had the replacement phone which was 3G it still happens occasionally.

Its a weird problem..

Virgin have refunded me the cost of the failed attempts which is nice, and have promised to email me some info about it.

Just wondered if anyone else has this prob.

I guess not as It would be more "known" I suppose.

Just cant think of the cause.

If it happens with a different phone, the it is either the SIM or the network. Possibly, there is a problem with your local cell. I am on T-Mobile and there are very occassional failed connections when using it on the move. I would estimate 5% of the time. I'm not particularly worried about that as it does only happen when travelling. And re-connecting always sorts it.

Yes. I get the same problem on the move, although the % is probably higher than 5. Maybe about 25% or more. A few reconnects attempts later it works, on the same cell.

When you get that failed connection do you get charged anything?
