HXD870 - Quirky SCART switching
Chris Green
29-01-2008
I've got my 870 linked directly to my Sony TV with a fully wired SCART lead.

However, I've noticed despite having the output set to RGB, and plugged into the correct SCART input on the TV for RGB, that on initial 'boot-up' it only gives me what seems to be a composite picture (garrish colours, contrasty outlines etc).

It stays like this until I do something else, like bring up a menu or change a channel, after which my nice sharp and tastefully coloured RGB picture re-appears.

Any ideas why?

My Topfield PVR never had this problem when it was the main input. (Now it switches through the Sony).

Are you manually switching the unit to the correct auxiliary input before switching the Sony recorder on? Does the Topfield block the automatic switching?

I just wondered because when I switch my recorder on(which is connected directly to the TV) it has no effect on the TV i.e. it doesn't select the correct input - until I press guide/setup or the title list. The Sony appears to only select the correct output ie RGB (or on mine - HDMI) when you physically decide to do something with the unit OR press the TV/DVD switch.

Alternatively it maybe its caused by loopthrough of the output from your TV?

Just a thought..

I experienced this quirk initially,as well.
I'm not entirely certain, but I think it is related to the Smartlink pass through.
If it is set to pass through, you will see the quirk, initially.
Setting the smartlink to This recorder only and changing to a fully individually screened scart cable are the only changes,I've made and noticed that, this quirk has disappeared.
