Don't you hate people that are on strict diets and can't eat anything they enjoy!!

Cream cakes are going round the office this afternoon but one person who lives on ryvita won't have one even though it's her favourite. We are having to tell her when we eat them so she can disappear for a bit - how sad is that.

Every time we have something different for lunch she comments on how bad or good that is and spends her day counting points and calories.

I eat healthily most of the time, but I like a bit of what I fancy now and again, blimey lifes far too short!!

Anyone for a cream cake ????

Some people do seem to turn it into a quasi-religion sadly. Pity because it gives healthy eating a bad name. But I guess every area of human activity has its extremists.

Restricted diet is also a sign of eating disorder - your work colleague may fall under this category.

While I think there is sense in restricting fat/salt/sugar a little bit of what you fancy often does you good and I think makes you a happier person. I for one one always feel better after a cream cake - not so good after 6

Inhad to enforce a strict ground rule in a place I worked at one stage. They could talk all they liked about diets but not while I was sitting at the table having my lunch. I could't cope with the constant picking over every bit everyone ws eating. It worked.

I wish I could do that - however, it's my linemanager that scrutinises everything in the department that passess our lips and offers impartial dieting advice to boot.

A colleague recently lost 30lbs and she congratulated her with the immortal words - well at least we can see your neck now, it doesn't just blend into your face. How rude is that She doesn't eat carbs and if anybody else is eating them she'll lecture for hours on how poisonous they are

My sisters were like that at Christmas - wouldn't eat any of the buffet food I had cooked and only ate soup that they bought over themselves and salad I had made. One of my sisters wouldn't even eat a Pringle! Thought it was a bit over the top IMO, as it was Christmas and couldn't enjoy themselves for one day.

I'm on the same diet as well now, but I'm going out for a nice curry on Friday as a treat for losing 10.5lbs in two weeks!!

How about letting people live how they want to live and stop whinging and whining about it? You want to eat cream cakes in the office? Great, do it. Someone else wants to have a ryvita cracker instead? Whose business is it other than theirs?

No issue, just curtain twitchers thinking that everybody should be like them.

You call them the 'diet police'... which makes you all the 'stick your nose in other people's business' police. Do you really have nothing to do?

Honestly, you're criticising the way they eat, which is everything you are accusing them of.

Reality check please.

You people that are moaning obviously don't have a life-long weight control problem unlike some, including me. I have to be determined, and have iron-willpower, one slip eating a cake and it's downhill all the way. I feel so guilty, it's not worth the minute or two of pleasure of eating that cake for the absolute disgust at myself afterwards. Perhaps the people you know are the same. It's like being an alcoholic I should imagine, one sip and you're back in trouble.

I have been losing weight for 6 months and have been saying no to cakes in the office during that time. Once I reach my target weight I might be less strict about it, but for now I can't make the choice to have that cake instead of a healthy, filling meal. I save my treats for the weekend.

However, I don't find it necessary to leave the room when others are eating cakes or sweets. I think it's a shame that the OP's colleague feels the need to leave the room, but with attitudes as displayed by the OP, I feel quite sorry for her.
