Which mobile and network for pay as you go?
Hi all,
My son in his 30's is looking for a mobile on pay as you go, for daily use. Definately doesn't want contract. There's too much choice out there, so any advice please on best deals around at the moment. Around the £60 mark with 'talk time' ![]() Thanks

How about this phone on O2. It fits into your price range, and you can spend the remaining £10 on airtime.
If your son tops up the phone with £10 airtime, he'll get 300 free text messages as well as being able to use the £10 for calling credit or to use once his message have ran out. Also, you get the free texts every month as long as you put £10 on it each month. |

Personally, I would recommend Tesco Mobile, which run on the O2 network. Their customer service is very good, as is their tariff - if you top up at least £15/m (you also get a discount by paying by direct debit), you get calls for 15p/m and texts for 5p each, which is cheaper than most if you don't use the phone enough to warrant paying 75p/day for cheaper rates (like O2).
At the moment, Tesco are giving you £20 free top up with phones costing £50 or more - they also have the J600 mentioned above, it's an extra tenner, but you do get the £20 top-up included. There's also a Nokia 3110 for £60, or an LG Rhino. |

Vodafone - If he makes mostly weekend calls in addition to some weekday calls
o2 - If he makes lots of landline calls OR sends lots of texts Orange - If he calls mobiles a lot Virgin - If he doesn't use his phone that often and receives lots of calls. T-mobile - if he wants a little bit of the above (but less goodies) They're basically all the same anyway. |

Vodafone Family is a good deal if that's appropriate.
I'm with Tesco and their CS is very good. Tariffs are ok too, especially if you make short calls as they charge per second; min charge is about 8p. |

Thanks everyone.
There were so many comments about Tesco's he went looking there and ended up spending a little more on an O2 Samsung D900. A nice looking phone, wouldn't mind one myself!
