Are these quiet running?

Do they have an audio output to connect directly to speakers?

thanks.

Yes very quiet as they do not have a fan and the HD is only running when required for recording, playing back or accessing info. The main noise is a slight "whirr" as the HD starts up and a click when it switches off.

There is a phono lead stereo audio (and CVBS Video) output on the rear of the unit but I believe it will need amplification to drive speakers directly.

many thanks Colin. If I don't get a dud from dabs this will be a real bargain.

You're welcome. If you don't know already you can upgrade to dual record using some "un-official" software loaded through the serial port. Doing so can have issues such as slowing down the EPG population but there are work-arounds. There is a thread on doing this in the Digihome Sub-forum. Let me know if you can't find it and I'll dig out a link to it.

No digital teletext is another downside. Regarding EPG population, it's bad even with the standard single record software now - that was one of the main reasons that I returned two of these to Argos. It turned into a 3-day EPG at best, and it's even worse with the twin record software.

It also has an optical digital TOS Link socket on it as well. Nice for avoiding the cheap DACs to get a really good sound.
