Question for MK_Brett
Hi,
I have been reading the horror stories regarding the traffic management problems people have been experiencing, lack of iplayer p2p i tunes and gaming service problems and have also read the tiscali statement on think broadband that says "The logic is that we'll save more money placing customers on the Tiscali backhaul per month than we will lose from customers migrating away." which proves they don't really give a stuff about customer service , My question is how does this 'management' affect TV users? As a Homechoice customer i am soon to be switched to the tiscali network so i would like to know in advance if i'll be getting half of the service i'm used to before i'm tied into a new contract so i can jump ship before it all gets too messy. |

I have totally lost confidence is Tiscali after reading about the treatment of Pipex customers and their remove of the gaming from their 'service'. What do they have to supply? is Internet and email access next? will TV hours start to be rationed? will the up to 8Mb service and unlimited become 1mb 12hours a day service?
Tiscali attitude seems to go for the lowest cost service and lowest possible service level. LLU customers are locked in, unless you take a hit (£129) for a new telephone line you could be without ADSL service for a month. There is no limit to what they could do or what they could cut. "The logic is that we'll save more money placing customers on the Tiscali backhaul per month than we will lose from customers migrating away." How far will that go? after all the TV service is a luxury, when will they abandon it? they haven't exactly promoted it. HD is obviously now out of the question. How many customers do Tiscali plan to get rid of? 10%? 50%? I'm checking out other ISP's, I'm not willing to pay to be used as target practice |

Well if you are happy it means Tiscali have the lee-way to cut your service further until you are not quite un-happy enough to leave.
As long as customers stick around long enough for the management to make the company look profitable they can sell up to a rival and vanish. This seems to be Tiscali's new business plan. |

ISP Tiscali Denies Blocking Online Gaming http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?op...8939&Itemid=59
By Tom Ivan Internet service provider Tiscali has denied accusations that it is intentionally blocking users from playing games online following a raft of complaints about its broadband service. ImageAs previously reported, forum posts on the European telecommunication firm’s website from irate broadband subscribers outline numerous issues faced when trying to play games like Call of Duty 4 online. The problems, which range from lag-inducing drops in connection speed to a common inability to commence online gaming at all, have been ongoing for a number of months, and forum posts on the subject currently run for a whopping 42 pages. Numerous reports, including one from a community relations manager on Call of Duty 4 developer Infinity Ward's forums, have suggested that the problems may be arising because Tiscali is choosing to block P2P services commonly used in the process of online matchmaking. However, Tiscali told Next-Gen in a statement that reports implying it was knowingly blocking gamers from playing online were unfounded. “Reports suggesting that we were deliberately blocking specific games are incorrect. We are constantly working to upgrade and refine our network to ensure our customers can enjoy their favourite applications,” reads the statement. “Work is currently underway on routine updates and we will keep you informed,” it continues, rather vaguely. Whether these “routine updates” are being cited as a cause of the reported problems or are being carried out in order to fix them is a little unclear. While Tiscali has promised to keep us updated we’ve already contacted the ISP for further clarification. |

MK_Brett, does Tiscali TV have any plans on providing the TV Service for the whole of the UK?
Is Tiscali TV a UK-based company (unlike virgin media) People have reported Tiscali Call Centers are in India, why is this? Will the Tiscali Website contain a list of what is available on demand? Last edited by NEWLINEtv : 05-02-2008 at 12:31. Reason: Added 3 Questions to Original Question. |

really bad service form tiscali
i thoought bt was bad for customer care but tiscali is nearly on par...2 hours i was on the phone to them and it was a complte waste of time , i was passed form department to department, was even passed to homechoice why god only knows when i am a tiscali customer, all i wanted to know was when my phone line is going to get turned over to tiscali.first i was told that tiscali was not enabled were i live and i could not get tiscali tv or broadband when i explained that i could get tiscali tv as i was watching just 2 mins ago i was passed to another department,to me it seems that tiscali have no customer care they have not got a clue what there doing , it was like banging my head on a brick wall they just would not listen....maybe the bbc watchdog would like to look into tiscali, but all tiscali would say that they were not aware of any problems.....karl

If you'd care to post this in the Tiscali TV forums, I'll see what I can find out for you. No guarantees though.

I've had Tiscali TV for nearly a week now. I had Homechoice before I moved, and I can honestly say that my internet connection has not suffered. I get speed test results of around 6.5 to 7 meg, and can use BBC iPlayer, BitTorrent, P2P software etc with no problems at all.
Perhaps I'm just one of the lucky ones. But it does seem like most of the people with connection problems are on an ordinary Tiscali package rather than a TV one. |

Thanks Zapomatic that's the kind of answer i was looking for
![]() I thought Tv customers would be slightly different as the tv uses up alot of bandwidth in itself, but getting any sort of straight info from tiscali is nigh on impossible! Just a quick question for you, Do all of these services work ok in peak hours? cheers Ryan. |

I contacted ITV and asked why ITV Catch-up wasn't on Tiscali TV their response was it's down to Tiscali TV to sort it out not ITV, strange response I thought it was up to ITV?
Tiscali to Customer, is it a VPN (Unmetered Bandwidth usage) so the broadband usage limit isn't used when the TV is used. |

The TV stream does not have any effect on the Broadband FUP. I think that is what you want to know?

You haven't answered any of the issues raised. Will Tiscali be capping, throttling or removing services? Is there any definitive list or contract of what Tiscali have to provide to their customers? Do they guarantee web access and email services in any way at all? |

I wouldn't bother Peter We , I have been trying to get answers for weeks and all you get is the usual automated response!
As for the issues being resolved a quick read of the tiscaki forums amongst others seems to prove otherwise.(Admittedly 'some' are reporting an improvement). I would be ditching the service completely if it were solely my decision but as i cant get Sky and freeview reception is poor (and it would cost me a grand to chop the f'ing tree down!) my Mrs has over ruled me,She loves replay and c1 so I'm stuffed! If it comes to it i will get a second line put in and go with Be for the broadband, don't really want the extra expense so I'll wait and see what happens. You never know we may all be proved wrong. |
