dfwmya
10-07-2003
From the MEDIA GUARDIAN website.

BB C4 10pm 4.7m viewers (C4's most watched programme of the evening)

RI:SE
"Channel 4's beleaguered breakfast show RI:SE has got a major boost from its Big Brother tie-in, with audiences doubling to 400,000 compared with ratings before the reality show launched.

It has given the station an vital lift in the morning with an 8% share - four times what it got at its ratings nadir."

For all the details on RI:SEs ratings etc. you might want to check out this thread. If the figures that you are quoting yourself there are for this weeks shows then I'll wait until the official figures come out and appear on that thread and see how our resident number crunchers RG and Mesostim take them.

As Macattack has said, I have an interest in viewing figures, particulary RI:SE.

The figures that I use are BARB which give the peak 15 minutes for the week. The last available is for Week 5 and is 600,000. This is the highest ever in over a year that RI:SE has existed, and gives them a 15.23% market share.

JamieX, I agree that this year's figures have followed last year's pattern and increased with BB. However, for me the most important figure is that the average for the 5 weeks is 14.02% up on the equivalent weeks last year.
It remains to be seen the extent to which they diminish post-BB. RI:SE seem to be gearing up to follow BB USA extensively. E4 are showing it after BB4 UK.

Dfwmya, I appreciate that you only posted the link, but I wonder if you (or anyone else) knows what these figures actually represent. Based on this and earlier Media-Guardian reports, I suspect that they are some sort of average not freely available to the public. They are certainly different to BARB. Also, if anybody knows of any other sources of (free) viewing data, I'd appreciate a post or a pm.

I treat every reported viewing figure with the requisite circumspection that such an anomolus situation portends. How many people is the sample based on...

...ahem!
