What I want to know is whether it will automatically switch aspect ratios when recording.

My current Panasonic doesn't.

All information about this and its sister model [ which includes a VHS deck ] says it is solely to be released in the Japanese market on February 5th.

Shame - could have ditched my Top Up TV box for this, depending on the price point.
