DVDR Connected via Composite Switches TV Inputs?
My DVDR is connected to my TV Ext3 via Composite cables, (the yellow red and white RCA type plugs).
TV Ext1 Scart has Sky+ and Ext2 Scart has Humax 9200T connected. To watch a DVD, I change manually to Ext3 and load the disk. When I press Play, the TV changes inputs to Ext1 and I can hear the DVD audio but no video. I then have to manually change back to Ext3 and all is well. Why should the composite video switch the TV inputs in this way? TV is Sharp LC32AD5E and DVDR is Sony RDR 120. JH |

JH Are you sure the DVDR is not connected in line with the Sky+ (or even on VCR scart of Sky+). If so this would explain what is happening, when you press play the scart switching on your DVDR is switched on and "tells" the TV to switch to AV1. Does your DVDR allow you to switch off scart control? |

Thanks for the correct term for the leads. My Sky+ has a scart connected to the DVDR input for recording. The DVDR output goes to TV as mentioned above. The DVDR has many options for setting up its 2 scarts and I find them difficult to understand - I am afraid of losing the setup picture on screen and not be able to re-set the machines IN/Outputs. OK here are the DVDR Scart available settings Line1out Line3in Line3out Video Video/RGB Video Original Video Video/RGB S Video Video Decoder Video Tried S Video S Video Video S Video S Video S Video I had the the machine on the top settings and dared to change them to the third one down but this bahaves the same and switches to Ext1 when play is pressed. Sorry but my columns above lose their formatting when I post. There are other settings but they are greyed out. JH |

As your Sky+ is connected to your DVDR, the DVDR switches your TV THROUGH the Sky+, as it's designed to do.

This seems wrong as I am trying to play a DVD, NOT view or record and external source.If I remove the switching pin on the scart from the Sky box, will this affect anything else? JH |

Additionally, my Sky box is connected to the DVDR from the VCR Scart. The TV out Scart from the Sky box is direct to TV and behaves normally. i.e., I am not using the DVDR as a passthrough for Sky to TV.

You ARE using the Sky box as a passthrough, because that's how you've connected it. Try disconnecting pin 8 in the SCART lead between Sky box and DVDR, this will stop the auto-switching. |

@Nigel Goodwin
I was in the process of disconnecting Pin 8 when you posted and I have now got rid of the unwanted switching. Thorough tests reveal that the only sacrifice made is that the DVD/TV button on the DVDR is now disabled. Thank you, @bobcar I DO have composite and not component connected via the Yellow lead and socket! (plus of course the associated audio channels). JH |

If one of them doesn't have component then you should connect the DVDR in line with the Sky+ to the TV and use SCART (assuming the DVDR records RGB). Even if you do have component output the DVDR input should really be connected to the Sky+ TV SCART (not VCR SCART) to get the best recording quality. |

OK, thanks I will sort this tonight. I had tried the SCARTS as you recommend and will put it back to that config. JH |
