O2 problems

I'm currently having problems trying to make calls and send texts (although the phone worked fine earlier). I've got a Sony Ericsson W810 phone which is on an O2 contract (Online 20). The battery is fine, and the phone reports me getting 5 bars of signal, and locked on to O2 - UK. The "G" which is usually near the signal bars has disappeared, though.

However, when I try and make any calls, I get three beepy tones and when I try to text, the sending of the message fails saying there's no network coverage. Have switched the phone on and off several times, but this hasn't done anything, and still detects a signal and locks onto the network, but no "G" appears, or it's greyed out.

What on earth is this "G" for? Sometimes it's replaced with an "E"?

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

i guess G is GPRS and E is EDGE.

Ah, thank you.

Also, my phone now displays "Emerg. calls only" on the display where O2 - UK used to be? The "G" has disappeared and only the 5 bars are there?

May just be your area. My 02 seems to be working fine this morning.
