Where did you get the phone from? I'd very much recommend insurance on this phone

CarphoneWarehouse! Sorry just checked, i have cover with my bank account. Upto £450 and exess of £30 which is not bad at all....covers me for accidental and loss or theft.

Just quick question if you know, if i did lose, get it stolen or accidently damage the phone, what is the process? for example, would they send me a new phone, send it for repair etc...i am on a 18mnth contract you see!

Phone Insurance is always better direct from the Network as they *usually* offer a replacement service, and you won't be without a phone for too long.

When you have it with a Third Party such as your bank, they will ask for proof of purchase before you can claim for anything which slows down and delays the process as must people then have to go back to where they bought it from and ask them for a copy.

However thats generalistic, so to answer your question more directly you'd have to read your Insurance Policy or phone your Insurer and ask them yourself.

Having spent years (figuratively speaking of course!) looking for insurance for this phone, I'm pretty sure it would depend on your policy - some give you the value of the phone in cash at the time it was lost. Some will always give a brand new phone for loss or theft (e.g. my cover with MoreThan). A break would probably be sent for repair, or you would be given money to cover a repair.

It would depend on the policy.

if it developes a fault it comes with a warranty. nokia is 24 months, not sure about LG.

standard statutory rights mean it's the vendor's responcibility. if it breaks then the network will deal with getting it fixed. you just wont get a replacement whilst it's off at the menders.

don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Nope that's incorrect. The network will fix it within six months. After that is the same as a guarantee/warranty with anything, it is with the Manufacturer. You don't ask Npower to fix your TV when it breaks because you used their electricity!

Nope that's incorrect. YOUR own network will repair phones under warranty for the 12 months after purchase. Though there is a £15 admin fee payable if the repair takes place in months 6 to 12.

Ask a member of the Insurance team, and I think you'll find they give a different answer.

:yawn::yawn: Have a look at the retail intranet.

Sometimes you can be a rude and arrogant arse.

Just because someone disagrees there is no need to yawn on the thread. Say I am wrong, so what? I'd fully hold my hands up and say I am wrong. You don't always know the answer to everything and are sometimes wrong. As we've even seen on these boards. These are here for discussion, and I'd rather say something if I disagreed and be proven wrong then say nothing at all.

I will check the retail intranet if I get chance, and if I'm wrong I'll say so. But I'll also check Guru and pop down to Insurance and ask them what their thoughts are.

I didn't buy my tv from NPower though!!!

It is the seller, not the manufacturer, who is responsible if goods do not conform to contract.

sometimes the networks and there employees try to deny all knowledge of this, can't help themselves. doesn't stop it being true though.

You could give LG a bell to clear it up if you wish.

This is nothing to do with Orange Care. I am referring to the 12 month warranty that comes with the handset.

My mistake I meant Handset Faults, but the departments work in conjunction with each other.

Very kind of you. Maybe this comm will help clarify the matter for you:

We have been made aware that despite previous communications, some of you have not been taking payment from customers having their handsets sent away for repair.

The £15 fee that's chargeable for handsets within warranty but outside 6 months of sale covers the delivery charge that Orange Retail is charged by TNT, the couriers.

If you do not take this payment from the customer, there is currently no charge to your store. However, from 1 February we will be checking compliance. If we fail to see improvement on this, charges will be cross-charged to stores who should have taken payment of the fee.

If your customer does not want to pay £15 charge to send their phone for repair, you can offer them two other options.

OK Yeah which is as I originally thought the £15 is the charge for the courier. But where is it couriered to? The manufacturers approved repair centres? Which no doubt Orange have a few of, so the manufacturer is still ultimately the person that pays for the repair to the handset, as Orange will bill the appropriate manufacturer Orange are not paying for this out of their own pocket, and my original point was arguing that the warranty is NOT with Orange.

care to elaborate as to what they are....

The 6 months thing is a bit arbitrary.

they are saying that they are less responcible after 6 months. if it is within a short period of time, (in this case evidently less than 6 months,) the law regards the phone as having been supplied faulty.

the network is just acting as an agent for the manufacturer. you can just contact the manufacturer. Nokia for instance have 100's of repair centers around the country. you just take it in. it's free.

the law is not different for mobile phones than for other things. the networks can't change the law.

(oh and i think you need to shop around for a new courrier)
