My DVD recorder has HDMI, so I watch Sky through that, by way of an expensive scart lead.

Scart is analogue and HDMI is digital.

The video being composite could use the yellow/red and white phonos inplace of scart, won't make any practical difference assuming of course the TV has composite inputs
S-video and phonos would also work, not quite as good as RGB scart but acceptable untl you get a DVD/Freeview or SKY box that use component or HDMI.
