Hi- I hope somebody here can shed some light on this problem. The picture on my TV (it's a Toshiba 28in widescreen, Flatscreen, 100Hz ) seems to smear (like they're burned onto the screen) fast moving images and also produces motion/light trails. It is a new TV and I noticed the problem immediately. Another odd thing is that my old TV developed the same problem just before I upgraded

Anybody have any idea whay this could be happening?

All 100Hz TVs do this to some extent. Newer ones are improving but it will be a while before it's eliminated. The effect is very subjective. Some people notice it and some don't. Switching off all of the picture "enhancement" trickery built into most sets sometimes helps but once you've noticed it you may find that you will never be happy.

I can live with it, It's only mildly distracting on fast moving images. I did wonder if it was an inherent problem with all 100 Hz televisions

I just thought some people would like to know that I use to own a 100hz TX28PL10 Panasonic and that it was not that great.

All in all it did remove flicker completely with Flicker Reduction "ON" but had way to many smearing affects especially on Digital signals using orange colours.

Star wars Episode II Looked awful.

I don't know wheither people know this but even with a 100hz TV to remove flicker completely you have to use some sort of extra flicker reduction device. All this does is add extra problems and by leaving it off even though you are still getting a better picture, The flicker returns and is exactly the same as a 50hz TV as the panasonic one was and I have checked on various Sonys.

To be honest with you flicker does not bug me all that much you notice it like with Sky epgs, menu screen and White colours etc "thats about it"

I did look at a muiti switching sony with 50hz and 100hz but was not convinced and it looked tacky with that back panel underneath the TV.

So I went with the KD28DX40 "32 is to big for me" and the TV was fantastic for Picture and pretty decent for sound compared to any Panasonic model.

You also got the freeview digital tuner which I never use "I have Sky +"

Panasonic in general are ok but even there 50hz TVS are not great "especially on RGB and analogue/composite settings" The colours bleed to much especially the Blues and Reds.

50hz rules!

P.S - For people that are wondering about 50hz flicker vs 60hz Scan Lines on NTSC just use Pal60 I find this mode to be way better for DVDS as the motion is faster as Pal is plus you get a 50% improvement on the Scan Lines.

Don't be fooled Pal is the best format and is far superior to NTSC.

I have just found this out and am very pleased with myself!

I turned my Contrast level on my KD28DX40 to 0 and noticed the flicker on my sky epg had completly disappeared but obviously the contrast was too low so I decided to take a chance and buy a video game enchancement box that had RGB I brought it home pluged in my Scart from the TV to it and pressed Picture Enchancment which raises contrast by 50% and then turned the brightness switch up to about 10 and "I couldn't believe it!" Still no flicker, I have finally figured out that 50hz TV's flicker because of the contrast purity (due to the scan rate) and having the actual TV's contrast set at 0 and using my box eliminated it so my TV is 50hz and flicker free!

"Call me a Genius but this will help alot of other people too (especially non 100hz lovers and people who don't want to spend alot)

The RGB Game Box which I bought from a Store called Game cost me "£19.99"

If however you don't want to eliminate flicker on your 50hz TV this way just move your contrast to half way "50" which eliminates picture flicker by 20% (Never have 50hz TV contrast too high it raisers the purity and therefore raises the flicker)

Just to let all you people who have been told by various shop store owners that the KV32FX66 is better then the KV32FX68 that it is complete rubbish!

The main reason people seem to think it is better is because it has 100hz Digital Plus and the KV32FX68 only has Standard 100hz.

Why??? you ask.... because Sony had so many problems and complaints with the FX66 due to the Digital Plus that they decided to leave it out on the FX68 and just have a regular 100hz standard picture which I can tell you is perfect and has no horrible flaws like the FX66. Why do they put all the extra on enchancements on certain TV'S anyway? They just make the picture "worse" not better!

Another problem the FX66'S suffer from are humming, basically the longer you leave digital plus on the more chance you have of the TV humming. The reason for this is because when Digital plus is on the FX66 starts working "too fast" and there for not only starts to hum but also starts to make weird sounds on white images especially.

My advice (from a professional)....If you want a good 100hz standard TV with no degrading picture enchancment crap buy the KV32 or 28 FX68. I have had mine for nearly 3 months now and it is fantastic! It's only been out for 3 months so I'm not suprised Sony have finally decided to release a TV that has a Standard "gorgeous" 100hz picture.

I own 2 TV'S now....One which is 50hz (KD28DX40) which I use for SKY+ in my bedroom and 100hz (KV32FX68) which I use for DVDS in my Lounge Room.
