I've found a TV I rather like (a Samsung LE40F86) but I've since discovered there is also the LE40F86BD and the LE40F86BDX...does anyone know what the difference these letters mean? They must mean something..but i cant for the life of me work out what.

If anyone knows I'd be very grateful to be filled in Cheers!

The B confirms the colour which in this case is Black, so you may see some also listed as W, if that model comes in that colour. It doesn't always have this code. The D and X will be similar to my Samsung Plasma model, i.e. a slightly modified version that one of the retailers stocks (mine was from Dixons)

It seems that each retailer may have a slightly different model, and they are not always exactly the same

At the end of the day though, the actual TVs are all only slight variations of each other

I would base the choice on which was the cheapest, as I did with my Sammy as the only difference was the piano black finish

The "D" means it has a Digital (Freeview) tuner...so don't buy one without it.

Also the retailer does not always use the full code in their description, you may therefore find an advertised LE40F86 may well be a LE40F86BDX

I recently brought a LE40F86BD from Amazon, and it was a LE40F86BDX that arrived.

I don't care what the model is or should have been - it's a great tv

Thanks guys, much appreciated I'm now wondering whether the extra couple of hundred quid is worth it from the M series to the L series though...i cant seem to see a difference in the shops (apart from the figures but i find theory doesnt help when you see the physical results!)

Someone actually said it was a con to prevent consumers price matching, same TVs but as the model number is different.

The newer ones have a special screen that's more reflective, might cause trouble in a lighted room.
