Right ok I took my TUTV Thomson Anytime Box back to argos and got a refund. I then bought this Digihome PVR160 - T825 with series link and am having a few teething problems...

No series link on Channel 5 and some other channels when my old TUTV Thomson box had series link on most.

The more series links I set, the more sluggish the box gets especially looking through the guide - is this faulty?

I set to record Eastenders earlier and I noticed that it started on time but after about 15 seconds the recording stopped.

I do like this box, seems better than the Thomson but is this a software bug and can it be fixed in a future update....

PS My local ASDA now selling the new ONN PVR160 T825s for 99.97!!!

Firstly if you bought the new Digihome 160GB unit with the T825 hardware then you have bought the Digihome DTR160 not the Digihome PVR160. Digihome units with "PVR" in the title are older hardware versions.

There are known issues with Series Recording on the T825 units. The slowing down of the unit with the increase in the number of events scheduled is also a known problem. Have a look at the thread here.

Does CH5 have Series Link data? I thought not.

It would appear that version 2.7 software that is on this unit is no better than version 1.7 on the Wharfdale HDMI as it suffers form the same problems.....including

Slow navigation of the EPG, key presses ignored completely.

Slow to display the Timers List when a number of timers are set.

Wrong events recorded when Series Timers set, my normal tests result in the same errors as per the Wharfdale eg

Hollyoaks C4 set a Series Timer for 1830 showing, first timer OK, but subsequent episodes are scheduled for 1900 showing on E4.

Neighbours BBC1, set a Series Timer for evening showing, first timer OK, but subsequent episodes are scheduled for lunchtime showing.

Both Emmerdale, and Coronation Street Omnibus Sunday ITV2....set these and it records the first showing on Saturday which is the signed version.

five does not carry any of the necessary data on the Freeview EPG at present.

As far as I know, when you set Series Link, the box should always record the first instance of subsequent episodes (unless that fails). So those wrong timers are actually correct, its the episode that is important not when its on.
The signed shows being recorded is a broadcaster error. These should appear to the box as different programmes from the non-signed version.

Top-up TV don't use Freeview Playback, they have their own version.

Nope...sorry wrong on both counts....as the programmes I am referring to have Different Series Crid Data, it should not record the earlier shows.....indeed take Hollyoaks as an example:

Tonight C4 1830

Programme Crid: 44579/026
Series Crid: C4010030317162113834

Tomorrow E4 1900

Programme Crid: 44579/028
Series Crid: C4080050307162812005

You can see from that:

1. Series Crid Data is different
2. You are going to miss 2 episodes of the series /026..../028


And then Neighbours:

BBC1 1735:

Programme Crid: 4J5CKU
Series Crid: KCI281

BBC1 1410:

Programme Crid: 4J5CKU
Series Crid: KCI280

Whilst the episodes are the same, the Series Crid is different.

The same applies to the ITV2 recordings.

Colin (creddish) pointed me to this posting since I've just bought an Adsa Onn 16GB T825 based machine after I returned my Asda Onn T816 machine for a refund. It's useful to know (though worrying) that there are problems with the T825 software. Can you explain (or direct me to a post that explains) what "crid" is/stands for please? I can guess but I'd sooner hear from someone that knows or read about it from an informed source.

This confirms my opinion that a box can use the episode identifier to record the episode, regardless of the series identifier. The question would seem to be in what circumstances it will/should do this. My understanding was that it is recording the first instance of an episode.

To take Barry's example, it would record Hollyoaks on C4 at 18.30, then the next episode on E4 at 19.00. On the second and subsequent days it would record the 19.00 episode only.

It isn't clear to me whether this is correct???

Using Hollyoaks as the example:

Today if scheduled on C4 it would record the 18:30 episode, tomorrow and thereafter it would record the E4 19:00....not todays....therefore you miss at least one episode.

Sorry, I'm being a bit dim I can't follow that last example.
